UMOX'UCOIDEX, MILLEDGEVILLE. GA* MARCH 5, 1936 FARMERS TO BE GRANTED 1SS* CROP LOANS FP. W. Lafsen Heads Lending Agency For Georgia (By McCleskey Garlych) Judge W. W. Larsen’s position one of the largest money-lenders in the State of Georgia also contributes materially to the welfare of the Georgian farmer. The non-borrow- Ing portion of the population like wise thinks well of their former Georgia Congressman by reason of the belie? that he is a prudent and vigilant lender without any of the Santa Claus qualities. Fanners with fertile tracts of land, able tr grow anything, may still be in need of the aid given by the Emergency Crop and Feed Loan Office. When it comes to lending money to deserving Geor gia farmers .all that Judge Larsen wants in the way of security is a good crop mortgage backed by mor al responsibility. As Regional Manager of the Emergency Crop and Feed Loan Office at Columbia, S. C., Judge Larsen realizes that the general public knows very little about the workings of his organization and how they are being carried on. He is fully convinced that Mr. and Mrs. General Public are handicapped to a certain extent when endeavoring to get certain things done. When one contemplates the vast- nrss of the enterprise, one can have some conception of the necessity for an organization of this kind. You can conceive of the need and the reccssity for farmers getting to gether and informing themselves as to what the objectives and the poli cies of the- Emergency Crop and Fe-d Loan Office arc. Prior to March 27. 1933, so-call- cd "Seed and Fertilizer Loans”, to enable .'armors without any other ously since 1929. During the period there has been made more than 210,- 000 loans .amounting to about $22.- 000.000. The repayment on such loans has always been very good; extremely high in comparison with some others. A liberal attitude has has hec*’ taken toward past due pay ments if investigation showed the borrower failed to meet payment for reasons beyond his control.
