PROPOSALS, Pot publishing by subscription a compendium of the Laws oj the State of Georgia, byArtiur Foster. Containing all the statute* a.id the pittance of all the resolutions of a general and public na ture, and now of force* which have been panned in said State from the year 1-20,t0 the >ear !fc‘d'.' both inclusive, with occasional explanatory note* and reference*, and a list of the statutes repealed or obsolete To which is added an appendix, containing the constitution of the state of Geor gia. as amended; also references to such local acts as relate to towns, counties, internal naviga tion, county academies, Sec. and a collection of the most approved form* used in carrying the above laws into effect; with a copious index tn the whole It wili be something like a continua tion of Prince’s Digest, noting the laws in *aio Digest, repealed or altered. J t may be obse. veu, that tho legislature of Georgia are in the constant practico of repealing, alteung, or amending laws passed at their previous sessions, so inat without auch a digest, or compilation of thstn, as is now respectfully offered to the public, it actually re quires a lawyer, or a per.'n vho has devoted much tunc to the examination sod comparison ot the ditf rent enactments ol each succeeding ses sion of the legislature, to he acquainted with »h the laws which are of force- And having witnes sed with much pleasure the immense public utili ty and popularity of the digest compiled by Oli ver 11 Prince and also having no doubt but a similar compendium of the law* from the time of that publication down to the present with the ad dition of the precedents, on forms, which wilt be placid in the appendix, and which will add great ly to the public utility of the work, and to thetur ther&nceofjustice, would be very acceptable to the yublic, the compiler has ventnrud upon tho arduous end important undertaking. However, a< t relying altogether on his own experience of having been a member of the legislature during the passage ofthe most of the Laws now proposed to bo published, and at the administration of them for eight yca-s, as justice of the inferior court, in a county whore much business of an in tricate nature is transacted in that court and the court of ordinary; tsftnr collating the manurcript it has been placed in the hands ofgentlernon em inent in tfye law, who after a strict and careful •Xdiuinatioa have politely tendered to him the ftttbjuioed certificates. I have examined a digest of the Laws of f«»r gia from 1820 to 1829 inclusive, by A Fostei, esq and think tho work executed with great judg ment and accuracy. Tho work is intended as a continuation of Prince's Digest, and is, in my opin ipn, woll calculated to answer that valuable pur pose. Although the author Is not professionally a Lawyer, he seems, in ascertaining tue statutes now of force, to nave addod much care examina tion anJV.ndy, to his advantages a* a practical ln gislato, during most of the period embraced in his work. JOHN F. KING. Auguste, July, IS3O Augueta, July 28, 1850. I have attentively examined a Digest of the Law sos Georgia, from 1820, t'2 1829 inclusive, and find the work is executed with much jud,, ment and accuracy, by A Foster, esq. of Coluin bin county,. I hare no doubt tho work will prove valuable to every citizen who feels desir ous to become informed of the statutes new of force in the state, and would recommend all jus tices of the inferior court, justices of the peace, eletks, sheriffs, 4c. to possecs themselves of the Wuik as soon as published. THOMAS GLASCOCK Wrighteborsugb. sth June, 1830. Sir—As far as I have yet had an opportunity sis examining the manuscript copy of yi-ur digest, Ot the laws of the stale of Georgia, I' highly ap prove both of its plan and execution. The vol ume canuot fail to answer woll the purpose for tvlnch it was intended. In the appendix there are a mtmbor of precedents or forms, which ap pear tc have boon modeled with accutacy, and in atrict conformity to the digested statues from Which they were drawn; and without doubt will add much to the value and usefulness of W ork, as a mean (in the hands of the justices of the peace, justices of the inferior courts, clerks Sheriffs, young practitioners of the law, and oth ers) in errying the above named laws into effect greater facility lam sir youi obedient servant, PIERSON PETIT. ‘ Arthur Foster esq. The work ie new in the hands of Judge Schley, Who has kindly promised as early as other «n --9agements will permit to take it through a care iil and minute investigation, and correction, if Correction shali be found to he necessary and proper. The great public utility of such a work must he obvious to all: “lid the compiler, who has de- Toled to it much time and lrborioue study, flatters himself that the testirnoials presented above, Will fully satisfy the public, that, that utility has not been lessened in the slightest degree, by any defect on his part, in its genera! design ot the ac curacy of its execution. IT*At the suggestion of the professional gen tlemen whose names are affixed to the above eer tilicates, and otheis who have generously taken iu\ interest in the work, and with an anxious de sire to make the work as extensively useful as possible to the public, the cempiler will introduce into it seveia) highly important laws of the Uni ted States, in common use among the people, end which are often difficult to be tound: among which a-e thi sci relation to the naturalization of alien* the remaval of cases from tho state to the United State courts, tho mode of voting for president and vice president, bv electors, ana of (Baking the return*, out the time of holding such flections, 40. TERMS The work will contani about 400 page*, and will be printed after the style of Prince’s digest. Which is to be taken os tho standard, and bound in law binding; will be published a* soon as a suf ficient number of subscribers can be obtained to warrant its publication, aud will be delivered to subscribers at their ranidences, at $3 50 per co py Any responsible person obtaining fifteen subscribers, and becoming accountable for the •ame, shall be entitled to due cupy gratis.
