PIIOEOSALS, For publishing by suhstriptiun a compendium oj : the Laics oj the. Stale of Georgia, by Arthur Foster. Containing all the statutes, and the substance j of all the resolutions of a general and public na ture, and now of force, which have been passed ; in said State from theyuar 1620, lo l hey ear 1822,; both inclusive, with occasional explanatory notes and references, and a list of the statutes repealed or obsolete To wliieh is added an appendix, | containing the constitution of the slate of Geur- j gia, as ainondctl; also references to such Ideal j acts as relate lo towns, counties, internal uaviga tion, county academics, Ac. and a collection of' tlic most approved forms used in carrying the above laws into effect; wilh a copious index to j the whole It will be something like a continua tion of Prince’s Diucst. noting tho laws in said Digest, repealed or altered, it may bn obse ved, j that tiro legislature of Georgia are in tho constant i practice of repealing, altering, or amending law-s j passed at their previous sessions, to that with nt such a digest, or compilation of them, as is now respectfully offered to ihe public, it actually re quires a lawyer, or a person who has devoted much ttmo to tho examination and comparison of the dill’ rent enactments of each succeeding se3 sion of the leg slature, to bo acquainted with all tho laws which are of force. And having witnes sed with much pleasure the Immense public utili ty and popularity of the digest compiled by Oli ver II Prince and also having tfo doubt but a similar compendium of the laws from tho time of that publication down to the present with tho ad dition of the precedents, on lbnns, which will be placed in tho appendix, and which will add great ly to the public utility of the work, and to the fur therance of justice, would be very acceptable to the yuljlic, the compiler has ventnred upon the rduotts and important underinking. Ilowovor, not relying altogether on his own experience of having been a member of the legislature during the passage oft lie most oft ho Laws now proposed to 1)0 published, and nt |lin ndmiuiotration ot ihem for eight y< are, as justice ot the inferior court, in a county where much hue ness of an in tricate nature is transacted in that court and the court of ordinary; after collating the manurcripl it has been placed in tho hands of gentlemen em inent in tho law, who after a strict and careful examination have politely tendered to him the subjoined certificates. I have examined a Jigo-t of the Laws of Geor gia from 1820 lo fi-2'J inclusive, by A. Posts, esq. si nil think the work executed with great judg ment and accuracy. Tho work is intended na a continuation of Prince'B Digest and is, in my opin ion, well calculated to answer that valuable pur pose. Although the author is not professionally a Lawyer, he seems, in ascertaining tno statutes now of force, to have added ranch care examina tion and study, to his advantages as a practical le gislate, during most of tho period embraced in bis work. JOHN F. KING. •■lugusta, July, 1830. Augftsta, July 28, 1830. I have attentively examined a Digest of the Laws of Georgia, from t2 182 ft inclusive, and find tho work is oxecuted vvith much jud*, rnent and accuracy, by A. Foster, esq. of Colum bia county,. I have no doubt the work will prove valuable to every citizen who feels desir ous to become informed of the statutes now of forco in the state, and would recommend all jus tices of the inferior court, justices of the peaco. clerks, sheriffs, 4 c-to possess themselves of tire work as soon as published. THOMAS GLASCOCK. Wrightsborough, sth June, 1830. Sir—As far as 1 have yet had an opportunity of examining tho manuscript copy of your digest, of tho laws of the state of Georgia, I highly ap prove both of its plan ami execution. Tho vol nmo cannot fail to answer well the purpose for which it was intended, lti tho appendix there are a number of precedents or forms, which ap pear te have boon modeled with accuracy, and in strict conformity to tho digested statues from which they were drawn; and without doubt will add much to the Value and usefulness of 'he work, as a mean (in the hands of the justice,, of tho peaco, justices of tiie inferior courts, clerks sheriffs, young prm titionersof tho law, and oth ers) in errying the above named laws into effect vvith greater facility. I am sir your obedient servant, PIERSON PETIT. Arthur Foster esq. The work is now in the hands of Judge Schley, who lias kindly promised as early as other en gagements will permit to lake it through a. care ful ami ininuto investigation, and correction, if correction shall ho found to ho necessary and proper. Tho great public nidify of such a work must bo obvious to all; aud the compiler, who has de voted to it much time and IHiorions st udy, Hatters himself that tho to-timoials presented above, will fully satisfy the public, that that utility lias not been lessened in the slightest, degree, by any defect on his part, in its genera! design or the ac curacy of its execution. ICTAt the suggestion of the professional gen tlemen whose names ere affixed to tho above cer tificates, and others who have generously taken an interest in the woik, and with an anxious do sire to make tiio work ns extensively useful 11s possible lo the public, the compiler will introduce into it seveial highly important laws of tho Uni ted States, in common use among the people, and which are often difficult to bo found; annum which a-c those i relation to the naturalization of aliens tlic rentaval of cases from tho slate lo tin United Slate courts, the mode of vnli g for president and vico president by electors, ami of making the returns, and tho time of holding such elections, .j e.
