There are not a few ugly rumours a
broad respeotiiig the decision to which
the Lords are likely to come concerning
the subject of the ileform Bill. Appre
hensions seem to he ent. rtained among
those who profess to be “learned” in such
matters, that the Bill will not even be al
lowed to pass into Committee., but be re
jected on tlie second reading by no-incon
siderable—at least in point of numbers—
majority. Little fear, we suspect, need
he entertained of such a calamity. Their
Lordships know the feelings of the people
too well, they appreciate their own legiti
mate privileges too highly, to venture up
on rashly checking the regulated enthu
siasm of the country. They know be
sides— and this valuable knowledge alone
will tend materially to help them to a
right decision that the 811 must puss;
dial no human power can now arrest, its

take place this w inter, then 1 am very much
mistaken.
