The most conspirnous of (he unofficial
foreign agents in Paris is tlio Princess
TroubetsKoi. She has been in the com
pany of ail the celebrated people of the
day—statesmen, poets, novelists, painters,
sculptors, soldiers, travellers, sciestitle
men, singers, players—looking upon them
all with mere curiosity and no sympathy
or respect; is able to turn a compliment
so as to gratify vanity; has a plenty of
fluent small talk, and has that magnetism
which title and wealth exert all the world
over. Her social position gives her ac
cess everywhere she pleases lo go. She
uses it chiefly totjatteud all the sittings of
the Senate or Chamber of Deputies, going
to whichever liaise may have the most im
portant proceemiig, and never failing to
attend one of them. She uses her social
position, too, to attend all receptions,
balls and other entertainments given by
Marshal de MacMahoo and by the Minis

rraxpects lor *rxl Oran** Crop.
From all quarters we have the most
cheering accounts of the prospects
for the coming orange crop. These
arc not confined to any particular
locality, but seem to be general.
Judge Williaiji Inwards, of Micano
py, iu Alachua county, Informed us
that ttie trees were perfectly white
with blossoms, and promised the
largest crop ever produced in that
place. Our readers will remember
that utter the freeze in December, we
fOTewIH fh*t this was likely to be
the case. A great many of the blos
soms will undoubtedly fall off and
prove aterWe, but, still euough will
be loft to (rive a heavy crop.— Florida

The Next House.— Clerk Adams lias
completed his roll for the next Mouae,
after long and anxious consultation
with his Democratic friends. As it now
stands, the number of Democrats is 151
and Republicans 140. This includes en
tering two Democrats from Florida, Lou
isiana and South Carolina, and leaving
off one Republican each in Missouri and
California, where certificates have not
been issued. There is much disappoint
ment ,among the Democrats that their
majority does not turn out to be largi r,
and efforts will be made to induce Adams
to make it so. The fear is that by South
ern votes the Republicans will succeed in
organizing the House. —Cincinnati Ga-

Payins a Wheelbarrow Waster.
from the Peoria (111.) Tranacript.)
Yesterday, at an early hour in the after
noon, eager, expectant crowds of men
gathered ou the street corners anxious to
see another Democrat pay the debt of bis
folly in supporting Uncle Sammy. The
vicum, as he has been announced hereto
fore, was M. H. Gallon, of Pekin. Soon
after (Huner a dispatch was received from
him that he w#uld arrive by the afternoon
train, in time to preform his wager at 2
o’clock. In the meantime Joe Gtllig had
his wheel barrow standing in his saloon on
Fulton street, all saddled, ready to mount.
At the appointed hoar, Mr. Gollon made
his appearance. Joe had a drum corps
that struck up a lively march, and led the
way out of Uie saloon. Then followed
the wheelbarrow, astride of which was
the victorious Gillig, weighing fully 200
pounds.
With a strap over his shoulder to assist
in bearing the weight, the defeated Demo
crat trundled along his load. Upon his
breast he had a placard, upon which was
the following: “Joseph, you have stolen
the President from us.”
Upon his back he had another, bearing
this inscription: “You stole the right
bower from U 9 and caught the left, but
we will change the cards on you on the
next deal.”
The trip from the saloon around the
Court House square and back to the place
of starting, was mde with only three or
fouryhort rests. When they got back,
then (lowed the lager beer.

It prevents the Hair from falling off, producing
a rapid and healthy growth; eradicates scurf and
dandruff, and cures diseases of the scalp. Try it
and judge for yourself.
[From Rev. E. T. Baird, Sec'y of Publication ef
Presbyterian Church South.]
Richmond. July 27,1874.
The Xanthine is the only hair dressing I have
ever used which has removed the dandruff from
the scalp and made my hair soft and pliable. It
has also restored my hair to its natural color; and
by occasionally using it as a hair dressing, I have
no doubt it will preserve tbe color.
E. T. BAIRD.

Mosht Cheek. Tknn, Aug. 22, 1876.
Xanthine Cos., Richmond, Va.:
I have used the Xanthine now for three years,
and have induced others to buy it, and have nev
er known it to fail in accomplishing all you
claim for it. It is an excellent tonic, a pleasant
dressing, removing and preventing dandruff and
ail unpleasant Itching, promoting and preserving
the natural growth and color of the hair, and ren
dering it glossy and pliable. I confidently,
cheerfully, knowingly recommend it.
