It is related of Mayor-elect Moore of
Cincinnati, a Republican, that durio/? the
war, when he was a Colonel, he was
placed in command of a detachment guar
ding a body of one hundred Confederate
prisoners, and one day one of them, a
great favorite, died, and his body was
sent to his family, who lived only a few
miles distant, but inside the Confederate
lines. On the morning of the funeral Col.
Moore diew the prisoners up in line and
offered to take them all to attend it, un
der no escort but himself, provided they
would pledge him their honor not to at
tempt to escape. They all accepted the
offer, and he marched them into the Con
federate lines, took part with them in the
the funeral exercises and returned at night
without the loss ot a man. This proceed
ing, though humane, was so contrary to
the rules of war that he was threatened
with a court-martial.— Nashville Ameri

STRANGLED WITH HER OWS HAIR.—
Quy Lin, a Chinese girl, living on
Spoffurd alley, near Clay street, was
strangled to death about G o’clock
this morning, her murderer being her
lover, Yim Ah Tung. At the time
mentioned, a woman living in the
room next to that of the deceased,
heard the sound of an altercation and
the threat, “If you don’t I’ll lick
you; I’ll kill you.” Immediately
following there was a struggle, a
moaning, gurgling sound for a mo
ment. then all was still. The woman
ran out of the House and informed
the police. Upon visiting the room
the girl was found dead upon the
floor, her face black, her tongue pro
truding, and her cue of long, thick
black hair twisted in several folds
about her neck and drawn tight.
Search was immediately instituted
for the murder r, but as he is not
well known to the police, some trou
ble is expected in finding him. -San
Francisco Post, March 30.
Couldn't Stand Her Cooking.—Two
loving hearts: a beafsteflk pie; woe. Early
in March, a breach of promise suit was
brought before the Bodmin Assizes, the
ptainiitt being a widow, age 77, ami the
defendant, flamaton, age 07. They had
agreed to marry, but on the ere of the
day appointed for the nuptials, the plaint
iff made a beefsteak pie , which was un
palatable to the bridgrmma elect. There
upon he declared be would not marry her,
and kept his word, feiging illness on the
appoined day. An English jury awarded
her SSO damages.

A shipwrecked sailor waiting for a

home nursing a cough or cold.
Oet Dr. Bull’s Cough Syrup and be
cured.
■ ♦
Dr. Kclienck’x hlandard Keiiirilles.
The standard remedies for all diseases
of tne lungs are Schenck’s Pulmonic Syr
up, Scheuck’s Sea Weed Tonic, and
Schenck's Mandrake Pills, and it taken
before the lungs are destroyed, a speedy
cure is effected.
To these three medicines Dr. J. 11.
Schenck, of Philadelphia, owes his unri
valled success in the treatment of pulmo
nary diseases.
The Pulmonic Syrup ripens the mordid
matter in the lungs; nature throws it off
by an easy expectoration, for when the
phlegm or matter is ripe a slight cough
will throw it off, the patient has rest and
the lungs begin to heal.
To enable the Pulmonic Syrup todothis,
Schenck’s Mandrake Pills and Schenck’s
Sea Weed Tonic must be freely used to
cleanse the stomach and liver. Schenck’s
Mandrake Pills act on the liver, removing
all obstructions, relax the gall bladder,
the bile starts freely, and the liver is re
lieved.
Schenck's Sea Weed Tonic is a gentle
stimulant and alterative; the alkali of
which it is composed mixes with the food
and prevents souring. It assists the di
gestion ky tuning up the stomach to a
healthy condition; so tuat the food and
the Pulmonic Syrup will make good
blood, then the lungs heal, and the patient
will surely get well if care is taken to pre
vent fresh Cold.
All who wish to consult Dr. Schenck,
either personally or by letter, can do so at.
his principal office, corner of Sixth and
Arch, streets, Philadelphia, every Mon
day.
Schenc'ks Medicines are sold by all
druggists throughout the country.

Good Advice.
Now is the time of year for Pneumonia,
Lung Fever, Ac. Every family should
have a bottle of Boschee’s German Syrup.
Don’t allow for one moment that Cough to

yourself. Consumption, Asthma, Pneu
monia, Croup, Hemorrhages, and other
fatal diseases may aet in. Although it is
true German Syrup is curing thousands
of these dreaded diseases, yet It is much
better to have it at hand when three do
ses will cure yon. One bottle will last
your whole family a winter and keep you
safe from danger. If you are consump

remedy. Sample bottles 10 cents. Reg
