gIF.E-N VICTORIA'S CROWN.
The following description of the Imperial
State Crown has been furnished by Professor
Tennant, Mineralogist to the Queen:
The Imperial State Crown of Queen Vic
toria was made by Messrs. Kundell & Bridge,
in the year 1838, with jewels taken from old
crowns and others furnished by command of
Her Majesty. It consists of diamonds,
pearls, rubies, sapphires and emeralds, sat in
silver and gold. It has a crimson velvet
cap, with ermine border, and is lined with
white silk. Its gross weight is thirty oun
ces five pennyweights troy.
The lower part of the band above the er
mine border, consists of a row of 129 pearls,
and the upper part of the band of a row of
112 pearls, between whioh, in front ol the
crown, is a large sapphire (partly drilled,)
purchased for the Crown by King George
IV. At the back are the sapphires (three
on each side); between them are eight emer*
aids.
Above and below the seven sapphires are
fourteen diamonds, and around the eight
emeralds 128 diamonds. Between the emer
alds and the sapphires are sixteen treloil or*
naments containing 100 diamonds. Above
the band are eight sapphires, surmounted by
eight diamonds, between which are eight fes*
toons consisting of 148 diamonds.
In front of the crown, and in the center of
a diamond Maltese Cross, is the famous ruby
said to bave been given to Edward, Prince
of Wales, son of Edward 111., called the
Black Prince, by Don Pedro, King of Castile,
after the Battle of Najera, near Victoria, A
D 1367. This ruby wa9 worn in the helmet
of Henry V. at the Battle of Agincourt A. D.
1415. It is pierced quite through, alter the
Eastern custom, the upper part of the pier*
cing being filled up by a small ruby.
Around this ruby, in order to form the cross,
are seventy-five brilliant diamonds.
Three other Maltese crosses, forming the
two sides and back of the crown, have emer
ald centers, and contain respectively 132,
125 and 130 brilliant diamonds. Between
the four Maltese crosses are four ornaments
in the form of the French flur-de Us, with four
rubies in the centers, and surrounded by rose
diamonds, containing respectively 85, 83
and 87 rose diamonds.
From the Maltese crosses issue forth im
perial arches, composed of oak leaves and
acorns; the leaves contain 728 rose, table
and brilliant diamonds; thirty-two pearls
from the acorns, set in cups containing fifty
four rose diamonds and one table diamond.
The total number of diamonds in the arches
and acorns is 103 brilliant, 116 table and
559 rose diamonds.
From the upper part of the arches are sus
pended four large pendant pear-shaped pearls
with rose diamond caps, containing twelve
rose diamonds, and ami stems containing
twenty-four very small rose diamonds.
Above the arch stands the mound, contain
ing in the lower hemisphere 304 brilliants,
and in the upper 244 brilliants, the zone and
arc being composed of thirty-three rose dia
monds. The cross on the summit has a
rose cut sapphire in the center, surrounded
by four large brilliants and 108 smaller
brilliants.
Summary ofjewels comprised in the crown:
One large ruby, irregular polished; one large
broad-spread sapphire, 16 sapphires, 11 em
eralds, 4 rubies, 1,363 brilliant diamonds,
1,273 rose diamonds, 147 table diamoncs,
four dropped-shaped pearls and 273 pearls.

nr. Scltenck’s standard Remedies.
The standard remedies for all diseases
of the luugs are Schenck’s Pulmonic Syr
up, Schenck’s Sea Weed Tonic, and
Schenck’s Mandrake Pills, and if taken
before the lungs are destroyed, a speedy
cure is effected.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H.
Schenek, of Philadelphia, owes his unri
valled success In the treatment of pulmo
nary diseases.
The Pulmonic Syrup ripens the mordid
matter in the lungs; nature throws it off
by an easy expectoration, for when the
phlegm or matter is ripe a slight cough
will throw it off, the patient has rest and
the lungs begin to heal.
To enable the Pulmonic Syrup to do this,
Schencb’a Mandrake Pills and Schenck’s
Sea Weed Tonic must be freely used to
cleanse the stomach and liver. Schenck’s
Mandrake Pills act on the liver, removing
all obstructions, relax the gall bladder,
the bile starts freely, and the liver is re
lieved.
Schenck’s Sea Weed Tonic is a gentle
Stimulant and alterative; the alkali of
which it is composed mixes with the food
and prevents souring. It assists the di
gestion ky toning up the stomach to a
healthy oonditionj so that the food and
the Pulmonic Syrup will make good
blood, then the lungs heal, and the patient
will surely get well if care Is taken to pre
vent fresh Cold.
All who wish to consult Dr. Schencb,
either personally or by letter, can do bo at
his principal office, corner of Sixth and
Arch, streets, Philadelphia, every Mon
