A nihiikp nvMMlMilt,
The most astonishing annecdote, ns it is
also one of the most circumstantially
told, is that related by Vernier, in the
Avenir National, concerning his friend,
Mutton, the artist. Vernier called on Mils
sou one day about four o’clock, and found
him iubis studio busy cleaning bis boots.
“You are going out this evening?” he be
gan. “Yes,” replied Masson, “dinner at
Mute. Ilainguetlot's.” "Good table,charm
ing women, pleasant company.” "I have
a great mind not to go ; I had a bad dream
last night; harm will befall me if I go
out to-night. 1 dreamed that I was at
work when I heard three defitinct knocks
at the door. I had hardly said ‘Come in,”
when a tali lady, her face veiled, was seat
ed in this arm chair. ‘ls it to M Mutton,’
she said, ‘that I have the honor of speak
ing?’ ‘To himself, utadame.' ‘Will you
draw my portrait?’ ‘1 am at your orders,
madame.’ ‘But 1 must have it at once.’
1 was impatient to see her face, and said.
‘We will begin at once.’ The unknown
made a movement as if setting herself in
to a posture. ‘Madame,’l added,‘l must
trouble yon to lilt your veil.’ She did so.
1 gave a scream. 1 saw a death’s head
before me. ‘The hoax is a good one, is it
not?’ s,lid a hissing vi.iee which came
from the empty mouth. 'Ail revolt', M.
Musson.’ Such was Musson’s dream.
Vernier bade him shake oft such thoughts,
and with good-natured persistence ended
by prevailing. Musson again took up the
blacking-brush and completed his toil
et. At 11 o’clock the same night Ver
nier, returning home, found himself in
front of thellotcl Hainguerlot, in the Itue
Mont slatic. A carriage was just then
leaving the court-yard of the house., Sud
denly a laud cry was heard; servants
rushed forward with lanterns; a man
had fallen down in the narrow entrance.
Vernier recognized the uufortunate Mus
son, almost run through by the pole of the
carriage and killed on the spot. Without
pretending to otter any explanation of
this remarkable story, one may observe
that, according to Vernier, Musson had
for some time previous been troubled
with gioonty' thoughts and foreboding,
which be duly related to bis friend, and
the friend ‘marked’ when lie bit. Of the
unfulfilled forebodings we bear noth
ing. Again the hypothesis of suicide
might explain the coincidence. Thomas
Lord Lyttelton, in the last century, was
supposed to itave died by his own hand,
and the well known story of the apparia
tion to have been invented by him
as a blind to disguise bis intention. It it
be objected that Musson would hardly
choose so unpleasant a kind of death, one
Can only answer that in the matter of
suicide men have only shown an ill-regu
lated taste—teste, the late Abdul Azis uf
Turkey, not to speak of many more.”
Rhode Island has 2,018 manufactur

value of products yearly is $125,650,875.
There has been a largo increase during

the results of their business. There are
135 cotton factories, vvirli a capital of

Kerp lour promise.
A boy borrowed a tool from a car
penter, promising to return it tit
•night. Before evening be was sent
away on an errand, and did not re
turn until late. Before going he was
told that his brother should see that
the article was returned. After
he had • eouie home he in
quired and found that the
tool had not been sent to its
owner. He was much distressed to
think his promise had not been kept,
but was persuaded to go to sleep and
rise early r and carry it home next
morning. By daylight he was up,
and nowhere was the tool to be
found. After a long, fruitless searclt
lie set off for his neighbor’s in great
distress to acknowledge his fault.
But how great was his surprise to
find the tool on his neighbor’s door
stone. And then it, appeared, from
the prints of his little bare feet in the
mud. the lad had got up in his sleep
and carried the tool home, and gone
to bed again without knowing it. Of
course a boy wito was prompt, in bis
sleep was prompt when awake. Jte
speoted while he lived, he had the
con ft den 08 of itis neighbors, and was
placed in many offices of trust and
profit. If all grown persons felt as
this boy did there would be a great
many tracks of bare feet found some
of theso bright mornings, and what
piles of books and tools would be
found at their owners’ doors!

Or. .Scltenck’s standard Krmrdlrg.
The standard remedies for all diseases
of tne lungs are Schenck’s Pulmonic Syr
up, Sehenck’s Sea Weed Tonic, and
Schenck’s Mandrake Pills, and if taken
before the lungs are destroyed, a speedy
cure is effected.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H.
Schenck, of Philadelphia, owes his unri
valled success iu the treatment of pulmo
nary diseases.
The Pulmonic Syrup ripens the mordirt
matter in the lungs: nature throws it off
bv an easy expectoration, for when the
phlegm or matter is ripe a slight cough
will throw it off, the patient has rest and
the lungs begin to heal.
To enable the Pulmonic Syrup todolhls,
Schenck’s Mandrake Pills and Sch-nok’s
Sea Weed Tonic must be freely used to
cleanse the stomach and liver. Sehenr k’s
Mandrake Pills act on the liver, removing
all obstructions, relax the gall bladder,
the bile starts freely, and the liver is re
lieved.
Schenck’s S“a Weed Tonic is a gentle
stimulant and alterative; the alkali of
which it is composed mixes with the food
end t*revents souring. It assists the di
gestion ky toning up the stomach to a
healthy' condition; so that the food and
the Pulmonic Syrup will make good
blood, then the lungs heal, and the patient
will surely get well il care is taken to pre
vent fresh Cold.
All who wish to consult Dr. Schenck,
either personally or by letter, can do so at
his principal office, corner of Sixth and
Arch, streets, Philadelphia, every Mon
day.
Schenc'ks Medicines are sold by all
druggists throughout the country.
