Having Agalnnt Hie Saint*.
Tho revelations in the matter of
the Mouutaiu Meadows Massacre
made through the confession of John
D. Lee and other evidence in the
possession of the Utah officers of the
law, have aroused the hostility of the
“Cieutilea” to fever heat. They pro
pose now to move “alone the whole
t me," and to break up the abomina
ble system of polygamy, or to com
pel the Mormons to emigrate to other
regions. The indignation meeting
held at Salt Lake City by the ‘‘Gen
tiles” on the 14th instant was largely
attended and enthusiastic in spirit.
A notloeable feature in the proceed
ings is found in the fact that the
meeting was oalled to order by Har
med Pratt, a son of the “Apostle”
Pratt, and on his motion, presided
over by Hon. J. B. Rosboiough, who,
with several other gentlemen promi
nent in the Territory, delivered
stirring speeches. A series of reso
lutions recite that the Mormons are
now, as they ever have been, inim
ical to the American Government:
that the Mountain Meadows and
o her atrocious crimes are due solely
to the Mormon system; denounce
polygamy, and call upon the Federal
Government to exclude from the ju
ry-box ami all other offices of honor
and ffroilt those who praotiss it; as
sert that polygamy is gaining ground
instead of decreasing; with other
complaints, deprecations aud appeals
of a similar character.
The primary and essential objeot
of the meeting was expressed in the
following brief amendment proposed
to the Organic Act of Utah, offered
by General Nathan Kimball, which
was referred to an appropriate Com
mittee for consideration:
Be it enacted, etc., That every male
inhabitant, twenty-one years of age
and upward, who is a citizen of the
United States, and who has resided
in said Territory for six months
prior to auy election, shall be en
titled to vote at such election, ana
shall be eligible to uny office within
said Territory.
Provided, however, that no person
living in the practice of polygamy or
bigamy shall vote at any election,
nor hold any office of trust or profit,
nor act as a juror In auy case. All
votes cast at any election in said Ter
ritory, shall be by secret ballot. All
laws, or parts of laws, in conflict with
this Act, are hereby repealed.
The Committee on Resolutions re
commend the appointment of a dele
gation to proceed to Washington, aud
urge upon Congress the adoption of
measures in accordance with the de
mands of the “Gentile” portion of
the Utah population. —San Francisco
Call, 19 Ih. _
Respiration by tbe mouth is easier
than by the nose, but not so safe.
The nose, to a certain extent, fits the
air for entering the lungs. The sense
or smelt prevents our breathing an
air loaded with poisonous vapors.
Tbe moisture of the nasal cavities, to
some extent, saturates the air and
makes it less irritating to the throat
and larynx. The inequalities of the
nasal passage and the hairs catch
the dust before it goes far enough to
harm. On tbe other hand, breathing
through the mouth dries the throat,
and in children may cause false
croup, catarrh, and it may so affect
the Eustachian tube as to cause in
jury to the ear and deafness. So im
portant, in the eyes of Dr. Guye, is
the importance of breathing through
the nose, that he has invented a little
instrument to apply to the mouth iD
sleep which bolds it shut and com
pels nasal breathing.— Herald of
Health.
Mot Much Afraid.
A man with the most lonesome ex
pression an artist ever eonjured up
for canvas halted at an eating stand
on the Central Market yesterday and
said:
“My good woman, I have been
robbed of eight thousand dollars in
the city.”
“Poor man!” she promptly sigh
ed.
“Yes, robbed of eight thousand
dollars, and I am a hundred miles
from home, and hungry and peuni-'
less.” •*
“And you want something to eat?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“You shall have it. Sit right down
here.”
He sat down and she gave him
some coffee, a piece of meat and a
biscuit. When he had finished eat
iag he said:
“Madam, did you really believe my
story?”
"No, sir,” she answered.
“You thought I lied, did you?”
“I knew you did.”
“But you gave me food.”
“So I did. My boy found a dog
yesterday and gave him more than
be could eat. I simply gave you
what was left to save filling up the
slop-pail.”
“Madam,” began the man as his
mouth commenced to draw around,
“Madam, I—l don’t see whether I’m
ahead of the dog or tbe dog ahead of
me on this thing, but I know you’re
ahead of both, and I feel sick. You
played it well, and if there’s any
dviog declaration in my eaee I won’t
mix you in. Bye-bye. old gal-I’m
failing fast.”— Detroit Free Prean.

The standard remedies lor all disec.
of tne lungs PUUaonlo Syr
hctienck's mStS? Pills, anon taken
beiore tne lungs are destroyed, a speedy
cure Is effected.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H..
Schenck, of Philadelphia, owes his unri
valled success in the treatment of pulmo
nary diseases.
The Pulmonic Syrup ripens the mordid
matter in the lungs; nature throws it off
by an easy expectoration, for when the
phlegm or matter Is ripe a slight cough
will inrow it off, the patient has rest and
the lungs begin to heal.
To enable tne Pulmonic Syrup to do this,
Schenok’s Mandrake Pills and Schenck’s
Sea Weed Tonic must be freely used to
cleanse trie stomach and liver. Schenck’s
Mandrake Pills act on the liver, removing
all obstructions, relax the gall bladder,
trie bile starts freely, and the liver is re
lieved.
Sehenck’s Sea Weed Tonic is a gentle
stimulant and alterative; trie alkali of
wtnoh it is composed mixes with the food
and prevents souring. It assists the di
gestion ky toning up the stomach to a
healthy oonditiou; so tnat the food and
the Pulmonic Syrup will make good
blood, then the lungs heal, and the patient
will surely get well if care is taken to pre
vent fresh Gold. , „
