Gather the aacred duet.
Of the Warrior* tried and true,
Who bore the flag of onr Nation'* truat
And fell iu the causa, though Lost, a till Jut,
And died for me and you.
Gather them rue and all!
From the Private to the Chief,
Come they from hovel or princely hall,
They fell tor u* and for them ahottld fall
The teara of a Nation'* grief.
Gather the corpse* strewn
O’er many a battle-plain;
From maay a grave that Ilea ao loue,
Without a name without a atone.
Gather the Southern alain.
We care not whence thaty came,
D-ar la their Ufeleaa clay!
Whether unknown, or known, to fame.
Their cauae and oouutry atill the *ame~
They died—and wore the Gray,
Wherever the brave have died,
They ahould not reet apart;
Living they struggled side—
Why should the hand of Death divide
A single heart from heart?
Gather their scattered day.
Wherever it tnay rest;
Just as they marched to the bloody fray;
Just as they fell on the battle day;
Bury them breast to breast.
The foemen need not dread
This gathering of the brave;
Without sword or flag, and with soundless tread,
We muster ones more our deathless dead—
Oat of each lonely grave.
The foeman need not frown;
They are all powerless now—
We gather them here, and wo lay them down,
And tears and prayers are the only crown
We bring, to wreath each brow.
And the dead thus meet the dead.
While the living o'er them weep;
And the men whom Lee and Stonewall led;
And the hearts that once together bled;
Together atill shall sleep.
A WILD DAY IW CHICAGO.
INTENSE EXCITEMENT ON ’CHANGE—
HEAVY ADVANCE IN WHEAT, CORN,
AND PORK—NEARLY $1,500,000
IN MARGINS POT UP.
SpeoUl to tha Cincinnati Enquirer.]
Chicago, April 25—A scene of the
wildest excitement prevailed on the Board
of Trade to-day, owing to the war news.
No such scene has before been witnessed
since the Chamber of Commerce in this
city was instituted. Wheat opened at
$1.70, and in less than five minutes
bounded up to SI,BO. The exciteraeni
at this rose to a tremendous pitch, which
did not subside until noon. The price
gradually dropped down to SI.OB once,
then went back to $1.71, where it stood
until the afternoon. In the course of the
afternoon it boosted again to $1.74 and
closed there —4c. advance upon the clos
ing price of Tuesday. The leading op
tion was seller June, No. 2, chsh, and
and seller May closed $l7O.
The afternoon excitements were in
corn and pork, in which large deals were
actually made. Withina few days corn
has advadeed 23 percent., and to-day it
took another shoot, which would have
laid out many an unfortunate had people
generally been particularly attentive to
that market instead of wheat. As it was,
there was but one failure, and that a
small one. The leading option was June
for No. 2, and the day’s range was from
57}c. to 56£e. The closing price was s|c.
higher than last night.
Poik ranged from $16.55 to $17.22, and
the close found prices 25c. per brl. higher
than yesterday. The calls for margins
were the hemvest that have been known
for years, nearly a million and a half
dollars being deposited for this purpose.
The day in every respect was one of
the most remarkable of the sort. From
the looks of things to-nigbt it might be in
ferred that the worst is over, but there is
no safety in saying that the whole bot
tom may not fall out of of everything to
morrow.
Didn't Know it was the Bishop —lt
is told of Bishop Simpson, the eminen-
Methodist divine, that soon after his elec
tion to the Episcopacy he stayed at Lant
caster, Pennsylvania, was introduced to
Mr. Bishop, the pastor, as Brother Simp
son, and was allowed with some diffidence
to preach Sunday morning- While the
collection was being taken up Mr. Bishop,
who was astonished at the preacher’s elo
quence, asked. Are you a traveling
preacher?” “Yes,” said Bishop Simpson,
“1 have been an itinerant for several years,
and now travel a very large circuit.’
•'What conference do you belong to?” "I
did belong to the Pittsburgh, but I can
not say that I am attached to any particu
lar conference.” “What did you say your
name was?” “Simpson.” “fcimpson! Not
Bishop Simpson?” “Why, they call me
Bishop sometimes.” Greatly surprised,
Mt. Bishop rose and exclaimed, “1 have
the pleasure to announce to the congrega
tion that the eloquent preacher who has
addressed us this morning to be Bishop
Simpson."
Marietta Journal— Last week, in Dal
las, Paulding county, a mother had a baby
in her arms when she approached a large
pot of boiling lye soap. The baby sudden
ly sprang out of her arms, aud fell for
ward head foremost into the pot. The
mother instantaneously rau her right arm
down into the hot and scalding pot of
soap, and brought fourth her baby dead,
while her arm was so badly burned and
eaten into by the boiling soap tbat atnpu
eation, it is thought, will be inevitable.
An exchange remarks: “The only jokes
women like to read are those which reflect
ridicule on men.” Yes, on taking up a
paper a woman invariably turns to die
marriage column.
A letter from one tramp to another was
picked up in Fairhaven, Vermont, the
other day, which closed as follows: “u
won’t ketch me in this stat agin my advise
te uiz tu go back to york stat ceep clere
of Vermont fur it iz not a good hum for a

Dr. Sclienck’s standard Remedies.
The standard remedies for all diseases
of tne lungs are Sehenek’s Pulmonic Syr
up, Scheuck‘B Sea Weed Tonic, aud
ftenenck’s Mandrake Pills, and it taken
botore tne iunga are destroyed, a speedy
cure is effected.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H.
Schenck, of Philadelphia, owes his unri
valled success in tne treatment of pulmo
nary diseases.
Tne Pulmonic Syrup ripens the mordid
matter iu tne lungs; nature throws it off
by an easy expectoration, for wnen the
phlegm or matter is ripe a slight cough
wul Uuo iv it off, the patient has rest and
the lungs begih to heal.
To enable tne Pulmonic Syrup to do this,
SchencK’s Mandrake Pills and Schenok’s
Sea Weed JL’onie must be freely used to
cleanse the stomach and liver. Schenck’s
Mandrake Pills act bn the liver, removing
ail obstructions, relax the gall bladder,
the bile starts freely, and the liver is re
lieved.
Schenck’s Sea Weed Tonic is a gentle
stimulant and alterative; the alkali of
which it is composed mixes with the food
and prevents souring, it assists the di
gestion ky toning up the stomach to a
healthy condition; so tuat the rood and
the Pulmonic Syrup will make good
blood, then the lungs heal, and the patient
wili surely get well if care is taken to pre
vent fresh Gold. . _
All who wish to consult Dr. Schenck,
either personally or by letter, can do so at
his principal office, corner of Sixth and
Arch, streets, Pniladelphia, every Mon
day.
