luMura Time* : . The Circuit Court for
Lee oounty Is now In Beasloo, Judge J. E.
Cobb presiding, and endeavoring to push
the business forward, but It seems to
“drag its alow length along,” as but few
eases have been disposed of up to this
time.
The case of D. N. Gibson vs. tho Eagle
and Phenlx Manufacturing Company for
damages, was given to the jury this after
noon, having consumed nearly three
days. The case wus ably represented by
the Messrs. Hooper and Col. Barnes for
plaintiff; John l'eabody, John Kirkpat
rick, Ham ford A, Lindsay, Esqs., for de
fendants. The plaintiff claimed damages
amounting to between $5,000 and $0,000;
while the defendants contended Unit the
property washed away was only worth a
few hundred dollars. Mr. G. Ounby Jor
dan, for the defence, testlllod to having
bought a half interest In four lots adja
cent for $1,500; and Mr. Pittman testified
to having sold a lot near by for a consid
erable sum (price not recollected) to the '
same company.
Verdict for plaintiff $1,025. 1 learn that
the Eagle and Phenlx will appeal.

From tho Journal.]
Mr. Wm. Carwell, who lives near Blue

meat stolen from him, and ciroumstanues

as tho thief. He wont to Clint’s house for
the purpose of searching it, but Clint re

would shoot him. The negro ran a short

continued to shoot until four chambers of
his pistol was emptied, when the negro

of them striking him near the spine and
passing through his body, from ttie effects
of which he has since died.
It seems eternal vigilenee is the price of

the bowels to become constipated and the
system to remain In a disordered condi

a pound of cure, is an old and truthrul
saying. Therefore, we advise all who are
troubled with the complaints now very
prevalent—headache, indigestion, disor
dered liver, want of appetite, nausea, or
feverish skin, to take, without delay,
Schenck’s Mandrake Pills. We know of
no remedy so harmless and decisive in Its
action. It at once strikes at the root ol
tho disease and produces a healthy tone
to the system. People never need suffer

Families leaving home for the summer
