Athena Post; We learn with feel

Houston Herald : One dly last week
the Rev. A. D. Hightower, of this

the ground, and on reaching it found
that a terrapin had him fast. Evi

it while in a moving position, and the
terrapin being easily scared, closed
his house that he carries on bis
back, and in shutting the door to
keep off offenders he caught the owl
with his door shutter, and the more
the owl moved the tighter he made
his grip until Mr. could not get
away, although the terrapin was anx

Mai ion Standard ; When W. O.
Wyatt went into offleein July 1879,
the indebtedness of Perry county was
over SIO,OOO, now the indebtedness of
the county is $2,620.00, with a cash
balance on hand of $2,739.80, The
treasurer could, by using the cash on
hand, pay up the total indebtedness
of the county and have a balance left
of $119.80, but tho law compelle him
to keep money enough on hand to
pay current expenses of the county,
such as bridge building, court ex

the sth day of January, Perry county
will not owe a dollar, and will have
money on hand to pay cash as she
goes for everything.
How They Gome Upon Us.
During the green apple season,
oramns come upon us like a thief in

the nt arest physician is called in, or
the pain is driven away bv a dose or

celebrated cure for all summer com
plaints, from simple cramps to the
most aggravated forms of cholera

The death of Mrs. Millard Fillmore
serves to recall a singular incident
connected with her two husbands.
In 1847, while she was the wife of
Hon. Ezekiel Mclntosh, of Albany,
Mr. Fillmore was a candidate for the
position of State comptroller of New
York. Some persons who desired to
defeat bls election, raised about S2O,
000 for the purpose and placed it in
the hands of Mr. Mclntosh, intruct
ing him to place it in a bank in UU
own name, and not to make
ihe matter public. He did as desired
but before the fund could be drawn
out to use for election purposes the
treasurer fell sick and died. Mr. Fill
more was elected comptroller, and
many years afterward married Mrs.
Mclntosh, and recieved as part of the
dowry, the money that had been rais
ed to defeat. his election The ex-
Preaident used to enjoy telling the
story, and often remarked that “the
money was placed where it would do
the most good” to him.
