made on Saturday night and came near be

the perpetrator and intended murderer;
victim his wife. Her story is that she had
been married to him four years; that he
would periodically beat and abuse her;
that it became so bad that she was strain
of her Hie being taken, and that four
months ago she left him lor good and ail;
that a short time after quitting him he
stole their ohlld-a little boy—from her
and she has never heard of him since.

Death of W. C. Nelson.
Died at hie residence In Greenville of ty
phoid fever on Bunday morning the 23d.
Mr. William 0. Nelson, aged twenty-eight
years.
Mr, Nelsou had been sick about three
weeks and It was tend I y hoped that the
chi etui nuislng of loving friends and the
watchful atieiidauce ot skillful physicians
would bring him back to convuleecence.
Young, and endowed with a line constitu
tion. he held out bravely, but to the great
sorrow ol a fond wife and devoted friends,
the dteeaee finally proved fatal. His death
occurred ou the tblid anniversary of his
marriage. Mr. Nelson was a grandson
ot the late William Florence and a stepson
of Judge Jesse Partridge. He came to
Greenville when young and began busi
ness with hie uncle, Mr, Joe H. Nelson.
By application and energy he rapidly ad
vanced and bld fair to become.one of our
most Infiuenilal and prosperous citizens.
He was endeared to a large circle of
friends and will be greatly missed in our
town.

f rilewed the romaine to the cemetery last
Monday morning where loving hands
gently consigned to his last resting plac
a friend who was ever kind and charitable
