Wu copy from a Washington dißr
patch to the Augusta Chronicle, un
item that may chili the hearts of
Confederate postollioe candidates. It
Heems that au old law has been found
that excludes every body from postal
appointment who is over 35 years oi
age, except discharged union sol
diers. If that la the law, and it is
carried out to the letter, Confederate
soldiers will have a poor chance In
the new dual that is being made.
The U. 8. senate is disgusted at the
facility with which the newspaper
reporters have gathered the proceed
ings of the secret sessions ot the sen
ate, and at the accuracy of their pub
lished reports, and have had a gene-,
rai review ot the abuses, and adopt
ed means to check them. They think
hereafter there will be no more leak
ing out ot secret session discussions.
We hope they have stopped It. Not
because we regard the work of the
•‘inner temple” any holier than that
or the outer temple—for the people
might safely know it all—but if they
pretend to have secret sessions, these
sessions should be secret in fact.
Governments should protect the
privacy of their workshops as well as
corporations or individuals.
