Worms.—As this is the season of the year when worms
ire mo-’. formidable among children, the proprietors ol M’-
1 -me’s Vermifuge, beg leave to call the attention ol parents
to its virtues for the expelling of these annoying and often
enemies of children. It was invented by a physician
i ‘ reat experince in Virginia, who, alter having used it
in his own practice, and found its success so universal, was
induced at last to offer it to the public as a cheap but cer
•in and excellent medicine. It has since become justly
popular throughout the United States as the most efficient
Vermifuge ever known, and the demand has been steadily
on tbe increase since its first introduction to the public.—
This great worm Specific may be had at all the Druggists
in Coiambus, and of Dealers generally throughout the U.S.
AGUE AND I EVER of three years standing
CURED.—Mr. John Longden.now living at Beaver Dam,
Hanover county, near Richmond, had ague and fever for
three years, most of the time he had chills twice a day,
and rarely less than once; he was parched with fevers as
soon as the chill left him; and alter trying physical, qui
nine, most of the Tonics advertised, and everything re
commended to him, was about to give up in despair, when
Carter’s Spanish Mixture was spoken of: he got two hol
lies, but before he had used more than a single one, he w„s
perfectly cured, and has not had a chill or lever since.
Mr. Longdenis only one out ol thousands who have
been benelitted by this great tonic, alterative and blood
puiifter. See Advertisomet. jan4.

COTTON —There has been a increased inquiry and
upward tendency for the past three days. The demand
continues active. Planters seem more disposed to meet
the demand, and crop lots change hands at the market
quotations, extremes s£a7i. Principal sales a 7i.
Charleston, Jan. 23.
The sales to-day were 1200 bales at extremes ranging
from 7 to 8$ cts. Prices aro depressed and rather in
favor of buyers.
Savannah, Jan. 25.
COTTON —The ? market yesterday was soft, and hol
ders were not able to obtain their asking rates. Although
prices are easy, we notice no quotable decline. The sales
were 1,108 bales. Extremes 6 a B£. Principal sales,
a 11 cents.
Macon, Jan. 24.
There has been very little, if any change in prices du
ring the past week, and we continue our quotations, at
from sto 7 f cents. Some fine lots sold at 7i, and more
is offered for choice lots, but no sales that we have heard
of. There has been a good demand, and larger sales than
any previous week, but amounting to a mere braction of
what was in our Ware Houses, —which is probably about
25,000 bales.
Sen Island Cotton. —A Liverpool dealer in Sea Is
land cotton writes to his correspondent in Savannah as
follows :
“The French colony of Algiers, in Africa, is likely to
compete with the United States in the production of nno
Sea Islands. Two years ago ten bags were grown ; last
year 140 ; and this year it is stated that 2,000 bags will
be produced. This cotton, so tar, has been sent to Havre,
and the prices realized were from 2s 4d (58c) to 4s ($1)
per pound.”

AYER’S CHERRY PECTORAL,
For the rapid cure of Coughs, Colds, Hoarseness, Bron
chitis, Whooping Cough, Croup, Asthma, and Con
sumption.
This remedy has won for itself such notoriety from its
cures of every variety of pulmonary disease, that it is en
tirely unnecessary to recount the evidences of its virtues in
any community where it has been employed. So wide is
the field ot its usefulness, and so numerous the cases of its
cures, that almost every section of the country abounds
in persons publicly known, who have been restored from
alarming and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its
use. VVhen once tried its superiority over every other med
icine ot its kind is too apparent to escape observation, and
where its virtues are known, the public no longer hesitate
what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerous
affections ot the pulmonary organs which are incident to
our climate. And not only in fordmidable attacks upon
the lungs, but for the milder varieties of Colds, Coughs,
Hoarseness, &c.; and for Children it is the pleasantest and
safest medicine that can be obtained.
As it has long been in constant use throughout this sec
tion, we need not do more than assure the people its qual
ity is kept up to to the best that it ever has been, and that
the genuine article is sold by

BRITISH PERIODIfiALS.
EARLY COPIES SECURED.
LEONARD SCOTT & CO., New York, continue to
ro-publish the following British Periodicals, viz:
1. The London Quarterly (Conservative)
2. The Edinburgh Review (Whig.)
3. The North British Review (Free Church.)
4. The Westminister Review (Liberal.)
5. Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine (Tory.)
The present critical state of European affairs will render
these publicationsunasually interesting during the forthcom
ing year. They will occupy a middle ground between the
hastily written news items, crude speculations, and flying
rumors of the daily Journal and the ponderous Tome.of the
future historian, written after the living interest and excite
ment of the great political events of the time shall have
passed way. It is to these Periodicals that readers must
look for the only really intelligible and reliable history of
current events, and as such, in addition to their well estab
lished literary, scientific, and theological character, we urge
them upon the consideration of the reading public.
£3l*’“ Arrangements arc now permanently made for the
receipt of EARLY SHEETS from the Brittish Publish
ers, hv which we are enabled to place ALL OUR RE
