TO THE PATRONS OF ‘
PERRY DAVIS’
VEGETABLE PAIN KILLER.
OWING to the large amount of Counterfeit Paih Killei put
up and sold ns genuine by unprincipled men, we have
been obliged to resort to very expensive measures to protect
ourselves pecuniarily, abd the public frrhi grfeat injury* by
buying and Using their boUntcrfeils. The compar
ative plain anil simple style in which our Tain Killer has
beeh put up, has made it very for those disposed,to im
itate it very successfully, as tar as its external app< crance,
in style of bottle, label, and color of the article; but we need
uot say that the compound is a miserable, filthy production,
and calculated to do great injury to those who might use it
with the confidence they have been accustomed to use the
genuine Pain Killer. Parties whose business it is to counter
feit valuable preparations, do it in such a secret manner, that
It is almost useless to attempt, to punish them by legal meas
ures, as it is difficult, and we might say impossible to bring
the proof home to them.
Considering the great difficulty in protecting ourselves and
the public by prosecuting parties, we bdve been to a Very
great expense in getting Up a ninety executed
STEEL ENGRAVED LABEL,
or our bottles. We also attach to our bottles aSteel|Engra
ved note of hand, which we issue as our obligation and the
counterfeit which is held to lie forgery by the laws of the
United States, and which parties will not dare attempt to do.
The great expense attending the getttng up and printing of
these labels, will prevent the attempt to counterfeit us se
feuring to the public that the article they purchase isthe gen
uine Perry Davis’ Pain Killer, manufactured by Perry Davis
& Bon, Sole Proprietors,
The Pain Killer will be put up in a new styie Os {panel bot
tle, with the words
DAVIS’ VEGETABLE PAIN KILLER,
blown In the Glass. We have discontinued the use of
the 37Jtf cent bottles and now put up only foltr nixes,
viz—12)£ cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, and sl, per bottle.
We have also a very fine Engraving on Stone, for the Box
labels, specifying the contents of the box, where and by
whom manufactured, &c. We have also added to our Pam
phetof directions and certificates, a cover beautifully finish
ed, presenting on the first page a very excellent likeness of
Perry Davis, the original inventor of the Pain Killer. The
bottle labels, and one label on each box, has also a correct
likeness of Perry Davis, which it will be impossible to coun
terfeit successfully.
Wo have been to this expense, that the public might have
perfect confidence that they were getting the genuine article
when they buy a bottle “as above described. To those who
have so long used an<J proved the merits of our article, we
would say that wesnali continue to prepare our Tain Killer
of the best and purest materials, and that it shall be every
way worthy of their approbation as a family medicine.

Blood.
This valuable medicine, which has become celebrated for the
number of extraordinary cures effected through its agency, has
induced the proprietors, at the urgent request of their friends,
to offer it to the public, which they do with the utmost confi
dence in its virtues and wonderful curative properties. The
following certificates, selected from a large number, are, how
ever, stronger testimony than the mere word of the proprietors;
and are all from gentlemen well known in their localities, and of
the highest respectability, many of them residing in the city of
Richmond, Va.
F. Boyder, Esq., of the Exchange Hotel, Richmond, known
every where, says he has seen the medicine called Carter’s Span
ish Mixture admiristered in over a hundred cases, in nearly all
the diseases for which it is recommended, with the most aston
ishingly good results. He says it is the most extraordinary med
icine he has ever seen.
Ague and Fever—Great Cure—l hereby certify that for
three years I had Ague and Ffiver of the most violent descrip
tion. 1 had several physicians, took large quantities of Quinine
Mercury, and believe all the tonics advertised, but all without
any permanent relief. At last I tried Carter’s Spanish Mixture,
two bottles ol which effectually cured me, and l am happy to
say 1 have had neither chills or fevers since. I consider it the
best tonic in the world, and the only medicine that ever leached
my case. John Longdkn.

C. B. Luck. Esq., now in the city of Richmond, and for inany
yaars in the Post Office, has such confidence in the astonishing
efficacy of Carter’s Spanish Mixture, that he has bought up
wards 0150 bottles, which he has given to the afflicted. Mr-
Luck says he has never known it to fail when taken according
to directions.
Dr. Minge,a practicing physician, and formerly of the City
Hotel, in the city of Richmond, says he has witnessed in a num
ber of instances the effects of Carter’s Spanish .Mixture which
were most truly sui prising. He says in a case of Consumption,
dependent on the Liver, the good effects were wonderful indeed.
Samuel M. Drinker, ofthe firm of Drinker &. Morris, Rich
mond, was cured of Liver Complaint of three years standing,
by the use of two bottles ot Carter’s Spanish Mixture.
‘Great Cure of Scrofula—' Theediiors of the Richmond Re
publicanjhad a servant employed in their press room cured of
violent Scrofula, combined wtth Rheumatism, which entirely
disabled him from work. Two bottles of Carter’s Spanish Mix
ture made a perfectcure of him, and the editors, iu a public
notice, say they “cheerfully recommend it to allwho nreaffiicted
with any disease ofthe blood.”
Still, another Cure of Scrofula —I had a very valuable
boy cured of Scrofula by Carter’s Spanish Mixture. 1 consider
it truly a valuable medicine.

remarkable.
Wm. A. Matthews, of Richmond, had a servant cured of Syph

To Professor Holloway, ......
Sir—lt is not tlly wish to become notorious, neither is this let
ter written for the sake of writing, but to say, that your Oint

llesh is heir to, and which was considered by all who knew me,
to be entirely beyond the reach ot medicine. For nine yean I
was afflicted with one of the most painful and troublesome sore
legs that ever fell to the lot of man ; and after trying every med
icine I had ever heard of, I resigned to despair all tode ol being
cured ; but a friend brought me a couple of large pots ot your
Ointment, which caused the sores on iny legs to heal, and 1
entirely regained my health to my agreeable surprise anddelight,
and to the astonishment of my friends. „ „
