From the liev. B. \V. Harris, a Minister of the Metho
dist Episcopal Church.
Dr. Charles Williams— Sir: 1 accidentally got hold
of your “Pulmonic Balsam of Whild Cherry,” and have
no hesitatancy in pronouncing it the Lest expectorant I
have ever used, and have tried nearly all the tar-lamed ex
pectorants of the day, as I have been laboring under pul
monic affection lor nine vears. I received a letter from
my brother-in-law, the Rev. James Wallis, a few days ago,
and he and his wife were both using the “Pulmonic Bal
sam, 1 ’ and were perfectly delighted with it. Ilia wife, two
weeks before, had lost all hope of recovery, but was aston
ishingly improved.
Your obedient servant,
B. W. HARRIS.

Dr. Jl’LancN Vermifuge.—During a pracUec.ol’
more than twenty years. Dr. Me Lane had attended innumera
ble patients afflicted with every form of worm disease, and
was induced to appl; all the energies of his mind to the discov
ery of a vermifuge, or worm destroyer, certain in its effects;
the result of his labors is the American Worm Specific, now
beforethe public,; which is perfectly safe, and maybe given
alike to childen of tbo most teudei age, or to th* aged adult;
It purges mildly ami subdues/over,and” destroys worms with
Invariable success. It is easy of administration, and as it,
doos not contain mercury in any form whatever, no restrictions
are necessary with regard to drinking cold water, nor is it ea
pableof doiugthe least injury to the teuderest infant. An in
credible number of worms have been expelled by this great
Vermifuge.
Purchasers’ will please be careful to ask for Dll. M’LANE’B

.Messrs. Wm , s. Beers & Cos., frcwfs. —Considerations of du
ty to the afflicted alone prompt me to send you this voluntary
testimonial to the great value of “Carter's Spanish .Mixture” i
for that almost incurable disease, Scrofula.
Without being disposed or deeming it necessary to go into I
the particulars of the case, 1 can say that the astonishing results j
that have been produced by the use of that medicine on a !
member of my own family, and under my own observation and !
superintendence, after the skill of the * best physicians had i
been exhausted and all tlie usual remedies had failed, fully j
justify me in recommending Us use to all who may be suffer- j

Ido not mean to say that it is adapted to all constitutions,or :
that it will afford the same relief in ail cases; for, et course,! !
know nothing about that—but from what I have seen of the el- •

OBITUARY.
Died, in Vermont, on Sunday, the 12th August, Jona
than Ingram, lather of Porter Ingram ol this city, aged 75
years
The deeeaeed was a native of Massachusetts, and was
one of the early settlers of Vermont, where, for about half !
h century, he continued to be an industrious, persevering ;
and successful tanner —for the whole-of that period, culti
vating and improving tlie same fields and being surround
ed by the same neighbors
110 was for more than thirty years a Deacon in the !
Presbyterian Church, to which lje belonged. The writer ;
is informed, by one who knew him long and intimately, ,
that., he lived the life of a true and consistent Christian;
never forgetting each morning and evening the Author of j
his being, and to pray for llis blessings upon all men. He ‘
died in the triumphs of the Faith he had so long professed.
His old fronds, by whom he had been surrounded -for fifty
years, with one accord pronunced him a good lather, a !
kind neighbor, an oxemplaiy Christian, and an honest man.
W.
Died, in Marion county,Ga., on Sunday sth inst., Mrs.
Karah Ann Ingham, wile of Col. Porter ol this
city, and eldest daughter of JUr. James D. Jarrott, of Har
ris county, Ga.
The deceased was a native of Elbert county, and a de
scendant of one ot'the original Broad jj River Setters.—
When a child her parents removed to Harris, h and there she
continued to reside until her removal to this city in 1853. \
Mrs. J. enjoyed the most liberal advantages fur the ac
quirement ot a thorough education, and alter a regular ac
ademic course, she completed her studies at the Wesleyan
temale College at Macon. But her pious parents, while
careful in providing for her moutal training and develop
ment, were not less mindful ot her religious culture. The
consequence was that she sought religion when quite young,
connected horselt with the M. E. Church, and very soon
thereafter, it is believed, was savingly converted to God. —
Although her latter years were embittered by a most pain
ful affliction, so as to deprive her of the ordinances of the
aanctuary, yet there can he no reasonable doubt that she
has now exchanged the sorrows of this world for an ex
ceeding and eternal weight of glory. The writer of this
knew her long and well, and cheerfully bears testimony to
her exemplary conduct in the various relations of daugh
ter, mother and wife. We need say no more. Truth would
not allow us to say less. Her mortal remains were (at her
own request) interred in the same burial ground where
sleep the ashes of her sainted father—a most just ami de
voted man. May tlie God of Grace sanctify this sore be
reavement to the widowed husband and mother, and to
the other numerous relatives and friends of our departed
sister. Oh may His Fatherly goodness continually keep
aud preserve the little orphan girl, who is no more to e\-
porienee the blessings of a mother’s sympathy and the gui
dance ol a mother’s counsel.

TO fHE PATRONfcs ut
PERRY DAVIS’
VEGETA BLE_PAIN KJLLEK.
OWING to the large amount of Counterfeit Tain Killei put
up and sold as genuine hy unprincipled men, we have
been obliged to resort to very expensive measures to protect
ourselvespecuniarily.and tbe public from great injury, bv
buying and using their worthless counterfeits. Tin- compar
ative plain and simple style in which our Pain Killer has
beeh put up, has made it very ca-y for those disposed.to im
itate it very successfully, as far as its external app< arance,
in style of bottle, label, and color of tbe article; but we need
not say that the compound is a miserable, filthy production,
and calculated to do great injury” to those wlwwmight use it
with the confidence they have been accustomed to use the
genuine Pain Killer. Parties whose business it is to counter
feit valuable preparations, do it in such a secret manner, that
It is almost uselessto attempt to punish th<m by legal meas
ures, as it is difficult, and we might say impossible to bring
tbe proof home to them.
Considering the great difficulty in protecting ourselves and
the public by prosecuting parties, we have been to a very
great expense in getting up a tltrly executed
STEEL ENGRAVED LABEL,
for our bottles. We also attach to our bottles a Steel Engra
ved note of baud, which we issue as our obligation and )ho
counterfeit which is held to be fergery by the Jaws of tbe
United States, and w hich parties will not dare attempt to do.
The great expense attending the getttng up and priming of
these label*, will prevent the attempt to counterfeit thus ?e
----scurintr to the pul,lie that the article they purchase isthe gen
uine Perry Davis’ Pain Killer, manufactured by Perry Davi
fc Son, Sole Proprietors,
The Pstn Killer will be put up in anew styie of panel bo
tic,with the word-
DAVIS’ VEGETABLE PAIN KILLER,
blown in the (Hass. We have dicorltinued tbe uu of
tlie 37>y cent* bottles and now put up ouly four cizes.
viz— I2)j cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, and SI, per bottle.
We have also a very fine Engraving on Btone, for the Box
labels, specifying the mr ten's of ihe her, whirr ard by
j whom nuiMfactiireJTke. tve hare also added to our Pwn
phet of directions and ci rtifler tes, a cover beautifully fobb
ed, presenting ou the first page a very excellent likeness ot
Perry Davis, the original inventor of tbe Fain Killer. The
bottle labels, and one label on each pox, has also a correct
likeness of Perry Davis, wl.iifh it will be impossible to couu
‘ terfrit successfully.
We have be*n io this expense, that the public might have
1 perfect bqnfldcnce that they were getting U e genuine article
when they buy a bottle “a* above described. To those who
j Lave so long used ai.d proved the merits of our article, we
j wmdd say that we ahull continue n> prepare our I‘aiu KHler
