Hauling Cotton Two Hundred miles. —. The Bastrip I lines ol the lltli ins'., says that it was informed by a iiiend that several wagons loaded with cotton w<y c on the i oad li'om Shreveport, La,, to Lake Providence, a distance ot nearly 200 miles, having no other way to get it to mar* Jtet, owing to the low stage of water ! Mrs. LeVert in Paris. I lie Doctor and his charming family, says the Mobile Advertiser, are enjoying ail the gaieties of Paris, at this time the gayest ol the gay. Every steamer brings to those Jolt, lier glowing accounts of distant lands, ol foreign manners, high society, and all the beauties of travel, as re flected on a pure, glowing mind, susceptible to every lively and generous impression. As on eveiy path tlso lair moth er and daughter tread, such charming impressions are left of our ow'ii best American society and amiable citizens, tending to make us all better and more truly known, it cannot but To of interest to hear all their sincere trhd house hold views ol ail they hear and see. We have been favor ed with the perusal of the letters last received, and with permission to extract some lew pariidtdars:. Paris, July 21, 185,T The Frincc's Ball.- Last night vve were at the reception,as termed here, of Prince Napoleon Bonaparte, heir presump tive to and who bears a wonderful resemblance to the great Napoleon. He is Psesident of the Exposition and now lives m the Palais Royal. The Princes Mathiide Retmdpil, his sister, receiving the company, and there was much form and ceremony observed as in Buckingham Palace. Still we passed an enchanting evening among the most distintinguished personages, literary, .political and artistic. • • o • , •. I fell into conversation, in bpanish, with a very ancient lady, superbly decorated with diamonds, who insisted that we must life country women, from my pronunciation of some one particular word. Replying in the negative, i suffered her to guess all the different nations ol the European world as mine before i pronounced our own dear America! Great was her surprise; and greater mine, when Prince Napoleon e.oining up, made me acquainted with the mother ol the Empress! Whispering to the prince, she called his atten tion to Octavia “as a perfect specimen of Andalusian beauty.” We append another brief extract on a very different subject—a picture to delight Mesdames Stow and Abby Kelly: “To us the funniest objects In Paris —though taken quite philosophically here—are two negroes from St. Counts, or something o! ulack Solique’s heraldry. They have an elegant ‘turn out,’ with a white driver, and two while foot men. Thege caricatures of aristocracy Lean back in their brilliant carriage, with all the vulgar affectation of assum ed importance, and deliver their orders to the servants with a laughable attempt at dignity. The fragrant airs with which they surround and endeavor to imbue their charm ing persons, are not the elegant indulgences they are with u?, but absolute necessaries ol their condition in life. And happily, it is not an expensive luxury, for perlumes are lar mdre abundant in Paris than Arabia.” Democratic and. Anti-Know Nothing Nomina ting Convention. The people of Muscogee County, without regard to old party divisions, who approve of the Platlorm ol principles, adopted by the Democratic Party ol Georgia [at their late | State Convention, arm are opposed to the proscriptive prin- : cipies of the Know Nothing Order, are respectfully invited ! to meet at the Court House, in Columbus, on WEDNESDAY,the sth SEPTEMBER,’ at 12 o’clock, M., for the purpose of nominating Candi* ! dates to represent .Mirscogee County in the next Legisla- j ture.
