Hunker Hill. —A A ankee gentleman, convoying a British gentleman around to view the different objects of attraction in the city of Boston, brought him to Bunker Hid. They stood luoking at the splendid shaft, when the Yankee said : “ This is the spot where Warren fell.” “Ah !” replied the Englishman, evidently not posted up in hosforie.nl matters, “did it hurt him much ?” The native looked, at him with the expression of four teen 4th .of .Julys in his eountemuce. “Hurt him 1” exclaimed he, “he \yas killed, sir )“ “Ah, lm was !” said the stranger, slid eyeing the mon ument and computing its height in his own mind, layer for layear. “Well, l should think he would have been, to fall so far.” Denmark and the United States, —The Paris corres pondent of the Augsburg Gazette says that Denmark is endeavoring to get France to aid her in her dispute with the United Stutes concerning the Sound dues. France wishes the dues abolished, but is not willing to allow the United States to interfere wiili the affairs of Europe. It refuses any aid, however, till Denmark joins the Western Powers against Russia. Denmark, it is probable, will not he caught in any such trap. Know Nothingism m Florida. We find the following in the Newport Times of Wed nesday: New Port Council, Saturday Evening, August 25, 1855. At a meeting of the Council held this evening, the fol lowing'Preaiuble and Resolutions wore presented and ad opted unanimously: Whereas, the Know Nothings may have been organized through patriotic motives; but the present workings of the Order is antagonistic of all such motives;and whereas.some ■of the tenets of the order are endorsed by many of our fel low citizens, and many wholesome principles are set lorth in the Platform of the Philadelphia Council, which are contradictory of the inside workings; and whereas, we be lieve that tbe organization, as manifested by its Ritual, is anti-republican and calculated to engender Political dis honesty: ‘Therefore be it Resolvod, By New Port Council, Florida, That this Council be, and hereby is dissolved, disbauded, and broken up. Resolved, That in consequence of the failure of the National Council, in its declaration, to preserve and pro tect our individual rights as Americans, wo therefore ab solve, and do hereby absolve ourselves from any and all allegiance and participation with the order.
