A lady, who is a strict observer of etiquette, being unable
to go to church, sent her card.
From Kick** and Garrett. Esq., Tobacco Inspector of the
Oily of Nashville, a gentleman well known,
Nashville, Oct. 8,1851.
Dr. C. Williams —Dear Sir: I have used with much
benefit your Pulmonic Balsam of Wild Cherry and Wood
Naptha. I was laboring under a severe cough, so bad that
I could not sleep, and knowing the high reputation of your
Pulmonic Balsam in the States of Alabama and Mississip
pi, I procured a bottle of it, and take great pleasure in
stating that, in a very short time, I received great ielief, and
must say that it is the best remedy I ever used for the cure
of a severe cough, and take great pleasure in recommend
ing it to my fellow citizens of Nashville and surrounding
country. RICHARD GARRETT.

Medical Testimony cannot be Controverted.
One of the most startling cases is narrated of Dr. Mc-
Lane’s Vermifuge by Dr. John Butler, of Lowell, Trum
bull county, Ohio. The cate was that ol a young lady
who had been very sick for eight years, and had consult
ed a number of physicians, who had treated it as one of
Prolapsus Uteri. Dr. Butler was then called in, and tor a
time believed with his predecessors that it was a case of
Prolapsus. He was, however, soon forced to the conclu
sion that his patient was suffering from worms, and after
much persuasion, prevailed upon her to take two doses or
Dr. M’Lane’s Vermiluge. This medicine had the effect of
/emoving from her a countless number of the largest size.
After she passed them her health immediately returned.—
JShe is since married, aud continues to enjoy excellent
health.
Purchasers will please be careful to ask for DR. M’LANE’S
ALEBRATED VERMIFUGE, and take none else. All other
Vermifuges, in comparison, are worthless. Dr. M’Lane’s gen
uine Vermifuge, also his Celebrated Liver Pills, can now
be had at all respectable DrugStoresin the United States and
tr#“Bold by all the Druggists in Columbus, and by one
agentin every town. jan!s—w&.tw2w.
Fever of three years’ standing cured. —
Mr. John Longden, now living at Beaver Dam, Hanover
county, near Richmond, had ague and fever for 3 years •
most of the time he had chills twice a day, and rarely less
than once; he was parched with fever as soon as the chill
iett him; and after trying physicians, quinine, most of the
I omes advertised, and everything recommended to him,
was about to give up in despair, when Carter’s Spanish
Mixture was spoken of. He got two bottles; but before he
had used more than a single one, he was perfectly cured,
<ind has not had a chill or fever since.
Mr. Longden is only one out of thousands who have
been benefited by this great tonic, alterative and blood
purifier. For sale by

A Tribute of Respect to the Hon. J. M
Berrien.
Muscogee Superior Court, )
December Term, 1855. J
At the opening of the Court, at its present Term, Col.
Seaborn .Tones in appropriate terms, announced the recent
decease ol the Honorable JOHN M’PHERSON BER-
.and moved the Court for the appointment of a
Committee to prepare and report a suitable Preamble and
Resolutions in relation to the character and memory of
the deceased. Whereupon the Court appointed a Com
mittee, consisting of Col. Seaborn Jones, Col. Hines Holt,
and Judge G. E. Thomas. The Committee on a subse
quent day of said Court, made, by Judge Thomas, the fol
lowing report, which was adopted, ordered to be entered
on the minutes ol the Court, and a copy transmitted to
the family of the deceased, as requested by the Committee:
The Committee to whom was referred the duty of pre
paring and reporting a suitable Preamble and Resolutions
relative to the decease of the Honorable John M’Pherson
Berrien, respectfully report, that—
Another, and another, and then another of Georgia’s
distinguished and honored citizens, have, within a short in
terval ol each other, been cut down by death’s relentless
hand. A Charlton, a Colquitt, and a Berrien, have trod
close one upon the other, in their exit to the spirit world.—
The State and the country, the city and the hamlet, friend
and acquaintance, have all heard the startling knell as it
rung along the coasts and up the valleys and was echoed
back again from the mountain tops—
“The mighty are fallen !
The godly man ceaseth.”
Who that has ever seen the graceful form of John M.
Berrien ; who, that has ever listened to his chaste and
commanding eloquence, can refuse him the tribute ol his
admiration, or relrain trorn participating in the general
grief for his death] He was a striking example ot what
study and system can achieve; of what a life of applica
tion and labor can accomplish.
We, his brethren, who have so often seen and heard
him, and felt the subduing power of his oratory, delight to
honor one who exalted his profession by learning and
adorned it. by his talents; who won, by his courtesy, no less
than by his attainments, the esteem and good opinion of
all who knew him. The Parlor had not a more perfect
gentleman—the Court a brighter star—the Senate a more
brilliant sun.
Having tilled up the measure of his usefulness and fame,
when the summons came (which must come to all) he died
in the possession of all his faculties; in the bosom of his
family; in the midst of his triends; in the city of his adop
tion, in the State for whose welfare and honor he had
spent the energies of his youth and the vigor of his man
hood; full of taith and lull of hope, discoursing wisely on
the future state. Sueh a man is a blessing to the world ;
such a life is w ithout reproach; such a death without fear !
Therefore—
-Ist. Resolved, That we, the members of the Bar of the
Chattahoochee Circuit, desirous ot commingling our sym
pathies with those of his more immediate friends, do cher
ish, in common with them and the whole community, the
memory and the fame of our most worthy and truly dis
tinguished brother, John McPherson Berrien, and that we
regard his death, not less a loss to his family, the legal pro
fession and the State, than to the whole country.
2d. Resolved, That wo sincerely condole with his deep
ly afflicted, bereaved family, in this severe dispensation.
3d. Resolved, That these Resolutions be entered on
the Minutes of this Court, a copy of the same be made out
and forwarded by the Clerk to the family of the deceased;
and a copy furnished to each of the public gazettes in the
city of Columbus for publication.

HINTS f0 ALL.’ 1
FRIENDS. —Reader, if you have a valued friend, in
whose welfare you feel an interest, that friend will
prize-as a precious memorial your Ambrotype or Daguer
reotype picture —if taken in Woodbridge’s peculiar style.
TO ALL.—How many have lost a Father, a Mother, a
Sister, a Brother, or an innocent little prattling child ?
and have not even the shadow of a resemblance to look
upon. Alter the separation, some littfe toy o- a trifling ar
ticle, is often kept for years, and cheri h* H a* a token of re
membrance. How much more valuable wr-uld he one of
Wood bridge’s perfect Daguerreotypes of “the loved and
lost V’
rgjrg-? rn
PARENTS.— If you are still blessed with parents, and
no artist has or can trace the lineaments of his or her
familiar face or form, you may well act the part of Milton,
to advise or persuade them to visit, without delay, the pal
ace rooms of WILLARD & DEPEW, and have
their pictures taken in WOODBRIDGE’S new style.
For a Holiday Gift, of all the rest,
A type of youjprelf is surely the best,
Then hie for Broadway No. eighty-two,
And get your picture of Willard and Depew.
