The weather for the past few days has been un* sually cool for the season. Our Thermometer ran. ges from 70 to 80 degrees, extremes. Crops as usual look favorable, and the health of the country generally good. We can learn of very little sick ness throughout this section, and the prevalent opinion that this is an unhealthy country is to a certain extent entirely eroneous. Our climate has been mild the present Summer, and our population look as healthy as mountainers. — Albany Patriot Aug. 26th. Mexico.—The London Times reviews editori ally the lamentable condition of Mexico and con cludes as follows“It seems theie is nothing lelt for the United States but to consummate the work they have begun, and annex the land of Montezu ma and Cortez, which even under the lash of the slave-driver, will not regret the illusion ot the lib erty of the Mexican Republic.” : MARRIED, In Ameficus, on the 24th iost., by Elder 11. C. Hornady, j Mr. MALCOM BASS, to Mrs. MARY C. PRICE, all : of Sumpter county. OBITUARY. Died, in LaGrange on the 10;h inst. Maj. George Heard, aged 73 years end 2 days. Maj. Heard was a native of Greene county, where his youth and early manhood were spent. He was known ex tensively through the State as a man ot marked charac teristics, and his death will be regretted by many In his native cuunty, as well as in Troupe ; his life has beed use ful and his example good. The vigor of his mind lead him to think strongly, and the earnestness of his nature made him feel deeply- What many called his “strong prejudices,” were the results of vigorous thought and earn est feeliog. There was no timidity in the composition of his nature. He was independent io thought and fearless in advocacy. What he believed, he dared to avow under all circumstances- Truth, honesty and courage, which with | many an accidental accomplishments, with him were Ge- | cesearv virtues. These found development in the wide field of thought and actioa which opened to mm in the Bocial, political and religious world. For bis friends, Maj. Heard had sympathy and support; for his Dolitieal party he had arguments when it needed defence; and cheers when its victories were won ; and for his church, he had fervent prayers for its altars and ready alms for its poor. He has long been known as a faithful ! friend, a thorough democrat, and an uncompromising Methodist. _ i He was never an aspirant for office, but was always con tent to perform the duties of a quiet citizen without any other reward than that of a good conscience. The praise of men was doubttess at acceptable to him as to others ; . but the consciousness of doing what he believed to be right, was above the price of riches. It was delightful to see him in bia old age, moving among the members of his church as a patriarch, to whom every ear gave heed, and every heart rendered homage. For months his family waited at his bed -side, with tearful solicitude for the hour ot his dis solution. It came at last—to them, wirh crushing weight, bat to him with wings of light, with which he ascended on high. W. G. C. But the trial of one bottle is more con vincing than all we could say m a whole Newspaper col umn. It does not dye but gives life, health and beauty to tbe decaying, tailing and dead, restoring as if by magic, that which was supposed to be irrevocably lost. Heads near ly bald and others nearly white, are daily being changed to tbeir pristine beaoty, and faces covered with pimphs are reodered as smooth as an infants’ and blushing as a rose —all by the use of Prof. _ Wood’s Hair Restorative.—St. Louis Commercial List. FREEDOM FROM FEVER AND AGUE. TRIUMPHANT SUCCESS: THE GRENADA ELIXIR, OR South American Antidote for Malaria ! Is a sure Cu r e and Perfect Route to Ague and Fever, Chill and Sever, Ague , and all Bilious Ajfec tions ! IT has been thoroughly tested in tlioc.-ands leases, some of years’standing, where Quit iae ? ..a all the most popular remedies of the day bad iaiied.E .i the Elixir has met with the most triumphant succet?; over failed to cure the most obstinate cases. The unac-im< us testimony of all who have used or witnessed its operations, declare it to be the most extraordinary medicine ev.r discovered for the quick and permanent cure c-f Fever and Ague. It operates as a gentle Tonic and stimulant, gradually but surely; eradicates every vestige of and restores the system to health and vigor. It imparts new vitality to the blood, and will soon induce the glow of heU'li to return to the pale and sw lt -ihy complexion, The advantage of this medicine therefore is, that a cure must be radical and complete; not simply breaking the Chill ,by producing a “new impression” upon the nervous system, without reference to the operations of the malari poison, which is allowed to remain unchanged and renew its attacks, immediately after the nervous system has ceased.to feel the artificial disease—induced by Qui nine and many other preparations generally resorted to. — TheGRENADA ELIXIR acts directly upon the Liver, Stomach, Kineys, Pores of the Skin, and produces a rad ical cure. It contains no ingredient the least injurious to the sys tem, and can be given to an inlant uith perfect safety.— It is warranted to cure every case when taken as directed. AH who need such a medicine, will do well to try the Grenada Elixir. It is not only the best but the moet eco nomical medicine ever introduced for Fever and Ague and is a Southern Remedy.
