Our so called governor refuses
to approve Cliaiiman Barnett's
bill o’r statement for work done on
the highway by laborers who need
the money which is in the state
treasury, because lh# Chainnan
wont dismiss five of the engineers
so he can replace them with some
oi his political.supporters who will
sneeze every time he coughs. It is
a d—n shame lor a man acting in
the capacity of governor keeping
needy people out ol tkeir hard
earned money for services already
rendered while their govern,or is
off a lot of the tuna drinking fine
lsquor and delivering hot air
speecnes. Drinking fine liquor
does not amount to a single cent to
Georgia. When the legislature
convenes again it should cut out
free cars and extra compensation,
and rent out the pari of the Capi¬
tol intended for occupancy of the
Governor when not occupied by
this official more than it is now.—

President Roosevelt has amend¬
ed his executive wider regulating
World war and Spanish war vets
with disabilities incuried or ag¬
gravated by direct service connec¬
tion and to pence time veterans
who have likewise obtained dis¬
abilities while vvi'th an expedition
ary force in line of duty so that
p, y will not be reduced more than j
25 percent front what they are
now reciving, provided, however,
(World war veterans) that they
had ninety days or more service
between April 6, 1917 and Nov.
Ii, 1918. The average reduction
will approximate 18 per-cent.
It has been interpreted that in
many instances that this new regu¬
lation will bring substantially in¬
creases in t ; iie compensation of
many veterans far in excess to that
which they are now receiving.
The non-service connected vete¬
rans who are permanently and
totally disabled will be raised from
■$20 to *30 per month.
The new regulation also liberal¬
izes benefits and allowances per¬
taining to buri.ti and funeral ex¬
penses to veterans.
No claim should be filed until
,
these orders have been Lsyed by
the Veterans Administration
Solicitor General John A. Boy
,k 'n, of Atlanta, lias held that beer
Re zed by officers in interstate tran¬
sit is not subject to confisotition or
seizure.
Judge Hawkins, of the Blue
Ridge circuit, has ruled that it can
be seized and confiscated.*)

us the law.
