FOR HALL COUNTY
GAINESVILLE, Ga., Sept. 22. —
Presentments of the July term grand
jury urged that a Hall county 7 ■ man¬

Today, Tuesday, the equinoctial
squall is on hand. It will help the
late crops.
Lee Barrett, who runs a taxi,
brought one of Mrs. Carney’s dogs
for me to board, but my supply is
already full. Hope he found it a
home. and
Messrs. Joe Brookshire the
plumbers, Howard ana Arnold, were
out this way recently drinking 7-Up,
Comer Jackson’s wild pig made a
big break to get out of the pen and
broke both of its hams. He dressed
it and brought me some already
cooked. He sold some of it for 33
cents lb.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Blalock, of Eas
ly, S. C., and son-in-law were here
last Sunday week. He is the son of
Joe Blalock and has been away for
years. He went from here to see
Graves London.
Mr. and Mrs. Garnett Cox and son,
of Columbus, Mrs. Ray Nix and chil¬
dren and Mrs. Jesse Hunt and her
adopted son were out this way last
Sunday week.
Columbus Abernathy was passing
this way last Friday and gave me a
can of Prince Albert. Will smoke it
and think of him. He told he and his
wife and daughter made a trip last
July to see Mr. and Mrs. Will Slaton,
of Inglewood, Calif. Will is doing
well. He and his wife gets $60 per
month each as old age pensioners. of New

Robertstown. Hadn’t seen Johnny
since he was a little boy. I went
home with him and his little sister,
Lou Emma, and spent one August
night. His father, Jack, lived at the
Reeves Westmoreland old homeplace,
then owned bv his father-in-law, John
Highsmith. He had an apple orchard
there then. Mr. Highsmith his was a
great walker. He would put coat
under his arm and walk from Gaines¬
ville. Jack was once out at Tesnatee
precinct to vote. He told of a man
who once had had a little pet sheep
named Billy. Billy left home and
took up with some goats. The man
would go and look over the fence, and
then tell: “Billy, I still love you, but
I don’t like the crowd you have taken
up with.”
Jack thought the turkey law was
out, so fig killed a wild turkey. going to Judge Hi
Kimsey and wife were
awassee court and so they helped
Jack eat that turkey. They got Jack
into court and Judge Kimsey fined
him $65. He then went home for his
dinner and told he had fined Jack
but was going to reconsider. After
dinner he reduced it to $1 and paid
it himself.

the Abernathy-Westmoreland reunion

Governor Thompson called the
General Assembly into extraordinary
session Monday to enact laws allow¬
ing all parties to get Presidential
and Vice-Presidential electors on the
Nov. 2 ballot. The Senate acted on
the measures Wednesday. The bills
are now before the House.
A voter has a right to know that
the electors for whom he votes will
faithfully represent him in the elec¬
toral college for the presidential can¬
didate of their choice.

nor. That is conclusive evidence in
both White Creek and Shoal Creek.
A governor will be better off to have
a constitutional highway board, then
the people it will serve can spend
some time and money making plenty
of trips to talk to the board to get
approval. Governor-elect Herman
Talmadge says that he will give the
people a constitutional highway
board.
There’s only 30 days left for Cleve¬
land to do its best in winning the
$1,000 prize offered by the Geoi'gia
Power Company for the town mak¬
ing the most progress during toward 1948.
We can make an effort sew¬
erage in the business section and
start on any other needed improve¬
ments. We haven’t got but these few
days to do something, and if we
hope to win we must get busy.
Judge Boyd Sloan will resign Oc¬
