,
be spent on construction of these and other highway and street projecte in
the state during this period. Interstate highways must be built to rlgM specifi¬
cations laid down by the act. Work already has begun on the first wmtract to
be let by the Georgia Highway Department under the act: a $1,451,867.59 four*
faun concrete bypass at Forsyth, in Monroe County. With minimum
nance, this construction, part of the relocation of U. S. Highway 41, should be
serviceable well into the next century. Two frontage or service roads will flan*

A SPADEFUL OF EARTH is turned, and the construc¬
tion of another industrial plaAt is begun. Ground¬
breaking ceremonies have become familiar events
in Georgia.
Last year 117 new manufacturing and processing
plants* were located on the lines of the Georgia
Power Company, and 44 plants served by the com¬
pany expanded their facilities.
These new industries and plant expansions rep¬
resent more than $118 million of capital invest¬
ment, over 8,500 jobs and nearly $26 million of
annual payroll. ’
The Georgia Power Company works hard to
encourage that kind of growth. Through the years
we have coordinated our efforts with state agen¬
cies, chambers of commerce, and other business
concerns. The common goal is a brighter future
for Georgia and all its citizens.
*Each industry represents a capital investment of
$50,000 or more and employs 10 or more workers.
