held March 24 at the Instruction
al Sudervisor’s Office. Fifty
words were given, selected from
the fifth through the eighth grade
spellers. Papers were corrected
immediately by the County Staff,
aifd Herbert Glover, C. S. Si, an¬
nounced the winner, Sharon Me
Kinzey. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, Homer McKinzey
of Blue Ridge district. Her home
room teacher is Mr. C. H. Allen.
Sharon will be presented with a
$25 U. S. Savings Bond by The
Atlanta Journal, and will repre¬

One explanation advanced for the
mnslirooming growth of government ex¬
penditures is that suca are required be¬
cause of the tremendous rate of growth
of dopulation. The Tax Foundation, Inc
recently came forth with findings which
pretty well belie the explanation. In the
past 20 years, eaye the Foundation, U. S.
population has increased by some 83 per
cent—but the cost of government.federal,
state, and local has increased almost
600 pel cent.

ed that the taxpayers didn’t want them
to.” So it seems to be a case where great
numbers of taxpayers want to have their
cake and eat it too,
What will be ihe upshot of ail of this?
In Newsweek’s view, the likely outcome
is compromise. There will be state lax
increases, but on a smaller scale than the
grovetnors propose. The hand of the tax
collector will dig a little deeper into all
our pocketa.

Miss Nelda ]o Davidson to Mr
Stanley Russell Ellis of Atlanta,
which was marked with quiet,
simplicity on Saturday, March 28
The alter was beautiful with
greenry and floor baskets of gar¬
denia, stephanitis and other
wedding flowers
Mrs. C. A. Stanley rendered
wedding music preceding the
ceremony Miss Charlene David¬
son, youngest sister of the bride,
sang, “Whither Thou Goest”and
“The Wedding Prayer”
Miss Judy Davidson was her
sister’s only attendant. She wore
a mint green lace dress over taf¬
feta, with headpiece to match She
carried a bouquet of pink carna¬
tions.
Mr. Don Cloyd of Atlanta was
the groom’s best man, and usher
groomsmen weie Jas. P. David¬
son Atlanta. Jr. and Lem Harper, both of J
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, was love¬
ly in a floor length gown ot tulle
and rachel lace over satin, Her
shoulder length veil was of illu¬
sion held in place with a crown of
tiny pearls Her bouquet was
white orchids
Rev. H. H. Sheets performed
the impressive double ring cere¬
mony.
The reception was held in the
Fellowship Room of the church.
Those receiving besides the wed¬
