WORSE THAN WAR?
In the period from 1900 through
1964 there were 576,268 Americans

ed. NOW HEAR THIS — in that
game period 1 501,000 were killed
,
*nd 52,850,000 injured in traffic
accidents — so reports U.S.N. &
W.R. “Improper driving” accounts
for nearly 90% of the accidents,
drinking only 8% and slow driv¬
ers account for more accidents
than speeders. Accidents are in¬

Creasing. Be careful! And point
cut danger spots where frequent
accidents occur, to your town and
State officials for remedying.
Something must be done!
Surgeon Cites
Amputation Value
In Serious Cases
SEATTLE (AP) A Canadian
nit-geon says medical attempts to
save a patient’s badly injured hand
are not only difficult, but some¬
times causes more trouble than
amputation Victoria, B.C.,
Dr. Gordon Grant,
told, a symposium at a sectional
meeting of the American College
of Surgeons here Wednesday that
such attempts are “roughly com¬
parable to an attempt to build a
house of cards in a high wind.”
Also, Dr. Grant said, severe in¬
jury to the dominant hand in a
male may lead to phychological
problems or psychoses. The am¬
putee may be easier to rehabili¬
tate than the victim whose hand is
unsightly and only slightly useful,
he said.
