FRENCH PREFER WINE
PARIS (UPI) — Frenchmen still
prefer wine to whisky, even though
a boom in consumption of Scotch
has boosted the number of gallons
sold per year from 175,000 in 1959
to more than 1 million today.
A French government study said
only about 14 per cent of all
Frenchmen ever drink whisky, and
the majority of those drink it only
onee or twice a month. AU French¬
men drink wine, and most of them
overy day.

Sosebee - Cline Ford
Receives Award
ATLANTA, Ga. — Sosebee-Cline
Ford, Cleveland, has received a
gold truck and a gold car award
representing sales leadership over
Ford’s principal competitor in the
dealership’s assigned trade area
during 1969.
The award was presented by
James M. Moore Jr., Ford Division
Atlanta District sales manager,
during a dealership recognition
luncheon held here.
Gold car or gold truck awards
were presented to 8ft dealers in
the Atlanta District, which includes
all of Alabama, most hi Georgia,
and amall portions of Tennessee
and North Carolina.
“We are very proud of the sales
job done by these outstanding deal
ers,” said Mr. Moore. “Their ef
forts did a great deal to give Ford
Division sales leadership in the en
tire Southeast, during 1966.”
Rioting Outbreaks
Disturb Officials
The early outbreak of rioting
in several cities is disturbing ad¬
min istraton officials.
It’s spurring them to try to find
out their summer youth employ¬
ment programs are still missing
the mark. And, if so, what can
be done about them.
The administration has proclaim¬
ed loudly that the summer youth
opportunity programs of the past
two years were a huge success.
But deep down, officials know the
projects didn’t reach many of the
Negroes and poor whites from the
ghettos.
Employers, for the most part,
gave the added summer jobs to
middle-class white youths. It was
easier and less risky. This year
special efforts have been made,
appealing to business not to take
the easy way out but to accept
the risks that may be involved in
hirng deprived youths.
In May, the unemployment rate
of non-white youths 16-19 was 23.1
percent. This compared with 8.3
percent for white youths the same
age, and a nationwide unemploy¬
ment rate of 3.2 percent.

Sex Desire Related
To Use of The Pill
ATLANTIC CITY, N. J. (AP) —
Wives who continue to use birth
control pills show increased inte¬
rest: in sex, while those who quit
the pill often show less, a four-year
psychiatric study finds.
The pill-takng wive* ouffer less
Ilian depression and anxiety, and
their husbands generally benefit
psychologically also.
And wives who quit the pill may
do so as a way of fighting back
against dominant husbands. This
lends to make their husbands more
anxious.
The study, the first made of
psychological factors in use of birth
control pills, was described Monday
to the American Medical Associa¬
tion by J>r. Ferderick J. Ziegler
and David A. Itodgers, Ph.D., ol
the Cleveland Clinic Foundation,
Sali Ann Kriegsman of Chevy
Chase, Md., and Dr. Purvis L.
Martin of San Diego, Calif., where
the study centered.
It involved psychological testing
before and during use of the pills
by 24 couples, 15 of whom stayed
on pills (throughout the study, while
nine women gave up.
Among the main findings, said
Dr. Ziegler, a psychiatrist, were:
Both groups of women had about
the same amount of annoying sid*
effects, such as headache and
nausea, from the pills.
Wives who continued the pills
are apparently willing to tolerate
these annoyances if they enjoy
sexuality,” if they don’t think
their husbands are being excessive¬
ly demanding sexually, and if
“they feel general responsibility
for managing family affairs.”
These wives are relatively more
responsible and more “intellecually
and socially effective than their
husbands.”
They retained more interest in
sex relations than Ihe other wives,
“to the point that nusbands esti¬
mated on the average their wives
desired more frequent sexual
relations than they did themselves.”
Wives who quit pills consistently
regarded their husbands as wanting
intercourse on the average more
than half again as often as they
themselves would like.”
Side effects of the pills wero
used as an excuse to stop, but
could be a protest against domi¬
nance by putting responsibility
for birth control upon the husband.
Husbands of wives who con¬
tinued pills seem to show improved
morale and probably improved
general effectiveness in living,
I while the other husbands showed
[ opposite changes.
