If aha tl'ie-i not secede. I cannot uiuicrntmul what other action she will take, unless, it js to submit. It strikes me that what ’ crer proposition* Georjr a will have t make to her sister Sou'hern States, will, bo after rlic resumes her independence among the nations of the earth. It occurs to me, that the action of; South Carolina, while it would be agree able to the people of Georgia to have her co-operation, will not influence her peo ple, if she has determined to secede, or control them, i( she ha- not reached that point. My opinion is, that if S"iith Carolina secedes from the Union, the people of Georgia will defend her ir. Ihe exercise of that right to the last extremity. It South Carolina or any o’her Southern State de termines to secede, it should be done by a Statu Convention ; the t ine of seven si>n should take place on the 4th of March next, and due notice thereof he served on Congruaa through the Kxecu tivo of the United States. Ido not behove in anv Soothe nSt ite wai iug the action of their sisters. If. in their sovereignty, they do not think the cause for a separa tion i* sulli ieut. but will cooperate with others that do. they are not acting fiom ih*’ motive that should defy revolution and resist oppress on, at. any and all ha zards. Besides, 1 consider separate state action resuming all ihc powers delegated to the federal government which they have abend med, essential to cons'.stenev at least, befoio they enter into any alli ance, league, confederation, or cm pact with anv other power wha'ever. If, therefore, South Carolina considers the election of Lincoln sufficient cause to resumo,,Mte Qoivc-is blhlliu.s delegated to Jo rc *° K and. .L'ioJerates at what time it is her determination it shall take place. I deem it useless to aignotlie question of the propriety of dissolving the Union if the Biack Kcpublicans ure ancces-ful. 1 hey have made the issue, that it is the, la-t hattlo with slavery, and the election of Lincoln is the downfall of slavery ; if the South hesitates upon his election, they will falter when lii.s party carry out their threats. If the eloctimi of Lincoln u acquiesced in by the Sou'll, Seward i.- right, that hiselecti-m is the downfall of rdavciy. I have no fears that tiic separation of fne, much less a half a dozen Southern States, would produce bloodshed to any very great extent; mid even il it did, it ought not to deter men and States in their action--based, a* it sliouhl be, on the deepest convictions, that they arc COntcu ling for their honor, and their right*.
