His funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 9, at Needful Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife. Mrs. Allie Bynes; children. Allie B. Scott and Valder Jr.. Melvin, Matthew and Janice Bynes; Janie Dixon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and lov ing relatives and friends. Dwight’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Fay Turner Gay, 83, of Millen died Jan. 3 Mrs. Fay Turner Gay, 83, of Millen died Saturday, Jan. 3,2009. Her funeral will be held 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Elam Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gay was born in Jenkins County. She was a devoted home maker, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a faithful member of Elam Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 55 years, Emory S. Gay Jr. Survivors include her three daughters, Debbie G. (Louis) Parker and Becky G. (Wyndell) Bell, both of Millen, and Shelly G. (Ed) Magruder of Athens; a son, Emory Speer Sonny (Janice) Gay III of Athens; two sisters, Bobbie T. Lynch and Joyce T. (Ralph) Andrews, both of Statesboro; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Karlson Bell, Norman Parker, Whitney Bell, Kevan Bell, Speer Gay and Ed Magruder. Datebook Free Course on Coping with Mental Illness National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Statesboro will offer its free and well-known Family-to-Family Education course begin ning Thursday, Jan. 15, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Pittman Park United Methodist Church, 1102 Fair Road in Statesboro. This out standing and informative course helps family members, friends and caregivers better understand mental illness and learn how to cope with those who struggle with them. Mental illness is the second leading cause of disability and mortal ity in America, and estimates are that one in five persons are affected. Surprisingly, few people understand the deep stigma and misunder standing that persist today. Locally trained members of NAMI Statesboro, Alice Coussons and Lois Roberts, would tike to demystify these diseases, and help friends and family members understand the unique challenges of living with someone with a brain disorder. The Family-to-Family course is a free, 11 -week, science-based class designed to help participants understand and support there loved one while maintaining their own well-being.
