Syl-View Happenings—
By Betty Scarborough
Greetings from Syl-View. It seems the New Year has moved
so swiftly.
Amanda Long, who won State Volunteer of the Year, was
honored during the Stars of Long Term Care session in At
lanta. Miss Long spoke to the group of owners and adminis
trators, sharing her volunteer experiences. She closed her
speech with her signature song, as she and Jordan Zeigler,
Teen Volunteer of the Year 2007, did the Chicken Dance.
Amanda received a standing ovation.
Syl-View “group volunteers,” who won state honors, were
also recognized. Dorothe Garrett spoke for the Memorial Bap
tist Church mission group, as they were seated on stage. She
told of the many volunteer services provided by the group.
There was thunderous applause for the group. Attending were
Amanda Long, Tina and David Long, Dorothe and Bill
Garrett, Jordan Zeigler, Lucas Bolton, Marilyn Reddick, Etta
Rae Weaver, and Don and Betty Scarborough. Toni Ellison,
administrator, was seated on the front row as her facility was
honored.
Nancy and Douglas Schriner recently presented a large,
framed picture of “The Last Supper,” which now hangs in
the music hall.
Margie Bryant was honored for her 35 years of service on
the nursing staff at Sylvania. She was “queen for a day.”
I recently received a plaque for my 27 years as Syl-View
activity director. Thank you to all who have helped along
the way.

View celebrated Chinese New Year. (Photo contributed)

Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) met President Obama in the White House Wednesday,
Feb. 4, at the signing ceremony for a bill that will provide health insurance to 11 million low-
income children.
“I’m proud to have been part of this moment,” said Barrow. “Now all of the kids in Georgia
who should be covered by PeachCare will be covered by PeachCare. This is no free lunch - it just
means that if you don’t make enough to afford private health coverage for your kids, but you
make too much to qualify for Medicaid, your kids won’t have to get their health care from the
emergency room. That means better health care, and better outcomes, at less cost. It’s not only the
right thing to do; it’s the smart thing to do.”
