Future Farmers of America Step Up
and Stand Out in Jenkins County
Members attend Wildlife Management
Derek Mcleod, Taylor Brinson, Ashlee Rhodes and Tiller Gay, the members of the JCHS
FFA Wildlife Mgt. Team, competed in the State-wide Wildlife Mgt. Contest Nov. 6, 2008 at
Swainsboro Technical College. The contest involves aging and judging white-tailed deer and
wild turkeys, identifying and describing native fish and game, and demonstrating knowledge
of Georgia hunting, fishing, and boating regulations. The team placed 27 th out of the 120

JCHS FFA mechanics team to
compete in Area IV contest
The Jenkins County High School FFA AG Mechanics team will compete in the area IV Ag
Mechanics contest on March 3. The team members are: Kevin Williams, Derek Mcleod,
Joanna Burke and Chase Fitch. The competition consists of three Practicum or “Hands-On”
parts: Small Engines Maintenance, Electrical Wiring, and SMAW or “Stick” Arc Welding.
The contest also requires a general knowledge test of all three areas. This team has been
practicing very hard and is hoping to do very well at this competition. (Photo contributed)
FFA speaking
competition
On Nov.13, 2008, Joanna Burke, right, and Amanda Mays
represented the Jenkins County High School’s FFA Chapter
in the Extemporaneous and Creed Speaking Career Develop
ment Events. In the Extemporaneous speaking contest Joanna
had to develop a four to six minute speech on a topic related
to current Agricultural issues. Joanna’s speech covered the
topic of Advantages and Disadvantages of Biotechnology. The
Creed speaking contest is for FFA members in grades 6
through 9, participants must memorize the FFA creed, which
was written by E. M. Tiffany and adopted as the FFA creed in
1930. Amanda placed 4 th in the Area IV Creed speaking con
test. Joanna also placed 4 th in the Area IV Extemporaneous

FFA members attend 2008 State convention
Jenkins County High School FFA members attended the 2008 State FFA Convention held in Macon in April of 2008. These
members attended informative and inspirational sessions conducted by the State FFA Officer team along with motivational
speakers and performers. FFA members also had the opportunity to attend a concert
featuring country music singer Luke Bryan. The FFA members also visited several
locations in Macon on their breaks throughout the Convention. JCHS Members shown
