JCES Prekindergarten
registration is April 29
Jenkins County Elementary
School Prekindergarten registra
tion for the 2009-2010 school
year will be held 8 a.m. until 2
p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the
Jenkins County Agriculture Cen
ter.
Children must be four years
old on or before Sept. 1, 2009 in
order to register. Children who
are registering do not need to be
present in order to register.
The following items are re
quired for a child to register: a
“certified” birth certificate, a
Certificate of Immunization on
Form 3231 and a Social Secu
rity card (optional). Jenkins
County proof of residency is also
required. This can be proved
with a utility bill (not cell phone)
listing the residence as the ser
vice address or a rent receipt or
a lease or mortgage agreement.
These items “must” show a
Jenkins County address.
Those registering who receive
TANF or food stamps should
bring a letter of eligibility con
taining their client number and
their card. Those who receive
Medicaid or PeachCare should
bring the card for the child they
are registering. Those receiving
SSI or CAPS should bring a let
ter of eligibility.
Participation in the
prekindergarten program is lim
ited. Spaces will be filled on a
first come basis based upon
completion of the requirements
listed above. Please call the
prekindergarten office at 982-
6019 or the JCES office at 982-
5503 if you have questions.

JCHS CSA attends CTSO
Legislative Breakfast
Georgia Career Student Asso
ciation (GCSA) State Officers,
State Officer Advisors and Mem
bers participated in the Annual
CTSO (Career and Technical
Student Organization) Legisla
tive Breakfast held at the Geor
gia Freight Depot in Atlanta Feb.

The breakfast was attended by
state legislators and dignitaries
from the Department of Educa
tion (DOE). Other CTSO’s chap
ters from across the state attend
ing included members from
FBLA, FFA, Skills USA, DECA,
FCCLA, HOSA, TSA, and CTI.
Casey Cagle, Lt. Governor,
Glenn Richardson, Speaker of
the House, and Kathy Cox, State
School Superintendent all ad
dressed the audience on the im
portance of education and
workforce ready skills for stu
dents.

gia Association of Career and

from Jenkins County High
Sheriffs
Corner
Immediately following the
March 25 search of Jenkins
County High School and
Jenkins County Middle School,
officers and deputies searched
the Jenkins County Jail. Located
during that search were two cell
phones and a small quantity of
marijuana; all found in the com
mon areas of the jail. No one
was charged and the contraband
was seized for destruction.
