The Millen News, Wednesday, April 1,2009 — Page 9 Woman’s Club attends district meeting Saturday, March 7, eight members of the Millen Woman’s Club attended the First District Spring Meeting in Vidalia. Club members from Savannah, Vidalia, Waynesboro, Statesboro, Sylvania and Millen attended the meeting. Awards were presented to clubs for projects and activi ties held during 2008. The Millen club won awards in five categories: second place in Arts; second place in Con servation; first place and Best Overall in Education; second place in International Affairs; and second place in Public Affairs. In addition, three Millen club members were presented silver trays for the following: First District 2008 Family of the Year, family of Mike and Anette Head; First District 2008 Clubwoman of the Year, Art Johnson; and First Dis trict 2008 Citizen of the Year, Jane Johnson. After the meeting, the la dies enjoyed a luncheon and the presentation of door prizes. The students took part in a project-based after school program where they were required to create a form of business. The students made jewelry and sold the items, raising $320 for St. Jude’s. Recreation department to host Aquafina pitch, hit and run The Jenkins County Recreation Department invites area youth to participate in the Aquafina Major Feague Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at the recreation complex. Competitors will be divided into four age divisions, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14 and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major Feague ballparks and the National Finals at the 2009 MFB All- Star Game. The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each age group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the Sectional Level of Competition. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the compe tition. Lessons will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. The in structor will be Terry Langston. For additional information, call the recreation department at (478) 982-2943. Recreation Department holds sign-up for softball/baseball Boys and girls ages 13-14 are invited to come by the Jenkins County Recreation Department and sign up for the Jr. Softball/ Baseball League.
