The Millen News, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 — Page 3 Millen Woman’s Club The Millen Woman’s Club held its monthly meeting in the Education Building of the Jenkins County Hospital. As members arrived, refreshments were served by Emily Dickey and Marie Busby. The meeting was called to order by club president Anette Head. Mandy Underwood gave the inspira tion, and Diane Wade led the pledge of allegiance. Judy Womack and Jane Durden, representing the Emanuel Rangers Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, presented the program. They explained the purpose of the organization and gave its history. The club hon ors all veterans from the Civil War through present day con flicts. Mrs. Durden discussed genealogy and how to research one’s ancestors. As a public service, their club plans to clean and restore the base of the Confederate monument on the courthouse square in Millen. After committee reports were given, Mrs. Head reminded members to sign up for the hos pital volunteer program if they are interested. She also encour aged members to participate in “Step for the Roses,” a walk ing program. Each received a certificate for their dedica tion and achievements. Bragg earns national recognition Linda F. Bragg, a repre sentative of Modern Woodmen of America, has been named to the Modern Woodmen 2009 President’s Club. This distinction recognizes Bragg’s high achieve ment in life insurance sales among the organization’s represen tatives nationwide. (Photo contributed) Red Cross DAT team raises $1,120 The Jenkins County Red Cross DAT team, under the leadership of Glenn Campbell, has raised $1,120 to help with local disaster relief. The HE ROES Campaign is a grass roots campaign designed to raise awareness and funds for disaster relief. Through out the month of March, the members of the DAT team held several events, includ ing collection sites at many local businesses. They worked very hard through out the month to let the community know how they respond when a disaster strikes. Other members of the team include: Charlotte Brummer, Brian Brummer, Gordon Sasser, Halley Linsey, Ebony Scott, Harold Moore, Bessie K. Sharpe, Dale Wagner and Tyler Wagner. Happy birthday! (Photo contributed) Murray receives scholarship at GSU Jessica Murray of Perkins received the Paul LaGrone Scholar ship during Georgia Southern University’s Honors Day ceremony held recently. Individual awards were presented to 156 students and inductees into various honor societies were also recognized.
