(Photo contributed) MCG chooses Sapp for summer residence Jenkins County High School junior Latranese Sapp has been accepted into the 2009 Pre-College Student Educational En richment Program at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). She was selected from a highly competi tive group of academically talented col lege bound applicants who are interested in pursuing careers in the health profes sions, based on her academic and per sonal qualities. This is a six-week sum mer residence program based at the MCG. Latranese was recently honored as being a member of the top five percent of the junior class academically and be ing a Georgia Certificate of Merit Scholar. (Photo contributed) Eagles struggle The Jenkins County High School Eagles baseball team ended last week with a one win, two losses record. The Eagles defeated Burke County 10-7. Leading hitters: Aaron Comstock 4-4 with a homerun and a double; Dag Gay 1-1; Spencer Clark 2-3; Josh Lee 2-4 and 2 RBI’s; and Akeem Young 1-2. Will Bragg and Houston Bowers both went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s. “Will Brinson pitched a great game getting the win with six strikeouts. Trevor Weathersby came on in relief to get a save giving up only one hit,” said Coach Wendell Clark. The Eagles lost to Aquinas 12- 8. Leading hitters: Dag Gay and Will Brinson, 1-2 with 2 RBI’s; Aaron Comstock, Trevor on the diamond Weathersby and Will Bragg, 1- 3; Trevor Weathersby, a double; Akeem Young, 1-1; and Hous ton Bowers 2-4. Will Bragg, Trevor Weathersby and Aaron Tanner all saw pitching action. “They pitched pretty well but our defense made too many er rors behind them. Aquinas had a good group of hitters,” said Coach Clark. The Eagles fell to Calvary 10- 0. Leading Hitters: Dag Gay, Spencer Clark and Will Brinson, 1-2; Aaron Tanner, 1-1; and Aaron Comstock went 1-3. “Calvary’s pitcher was ahead of us 0-2 all day. It makes it very hard to hit. Aaron Comstock pitched giving up 12 hits to a very good team. Aaron Tanner came in relief to get a ground ball double play to end the inning,” said Coach Clark.
