The Millen News, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 — Page 3 JCHS JROTC hosts awards ceremony The Army Corps of Cadets at Jenkins County High School (JCHS) hosted their second annual Awards and Recognition Banquet Friday, April 24, in the school caf eteria. Military and civilian civic organizations from Millen, Sylvania and Augusta were present to recognize cadets who met their organization’s criteria for excellence that focused on aca demic/scholastic achievement, citizenship, discipline, leadership and patriotism. Dr. Joey Kirkland, JCHS prin cipal, also presented awards to cadets for excellence in math, his tory, science and English/foreign language. Those cadets receiving recognition in these areas all main tained a 90 average or higher for the year. Twenty-two cadets were recog nized for participating in varsity athletics; 42 cadets were recog nized for JROTC athletics; 21 ca dets were recognized for academic excellence with 13 making the high school honor roll; 15 cadets earned their letter jacket by par ticipation in the JROTC Raider Team and/or the JROTC Drill Team/Color Guard for the past two years. The Veterans of Foreign War recognized Cadet First Lieutenant Chris Hillis for Military Excel lence and Cadet Staff Sergeant Ladeshia Simpkins for Scholastic Excellence.
