Page 2 — Wednesday, June 24, 2009, The Millen News Seniors exercise with new bikes Planters Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) helped the Jenkins County Senior Citizen Center purchase two recumbent exercise bikes through the Opera tion Round Up grant so seniors can remain active. The center has two stationary bikes already, but the recumbent bikes are easier to ride and less stressful on the body. The grant was part of the nearly $15,000 disbursement during the past quarter. The grant funds are made possible by Planters EMC members that volunteer to round up their electric bill to the near est dollar amount, and the pen nies left over support the projects. Other groups receiving project funding were veterans, Jenkins County 4-H, adults earning their GEDs and chronically and termi nally ill children. Nonprofit or ganizations interested in receiv ing grants should submit grant applications for the next round of disbursements before the dead line July 10. For more informa tion, visit www.plantersemc.com or call (478) 982-4722.
