Opinions, yours and ours
The Chatter Box
By Deborah Bennett
Work began last week on the Cotton Avenue TE grant
project. It has been a long time in the making, and I am sure
everyone connected with it is delighted to finally see some
thing happening.
I am just as sure that businesses on Cotton Avenue and
their customers are going to be dealing with some inconve
niences while the construction work is taking place. This
will only be temporary, however, and well worth it once the
project is completed.
The appearance of our community has long been cited as a
disadvantage for those trying to bring additional industry to
Millen and Jenkins County. Improving the appearance of Cot
ton Avenue will certainly aid their efforts.
Downtown merchants will have the opportunity to meet
with representatives from the contractor and engineering
firms every two weeks to hear updates and discuss any con
cerns or problems that may arise.
And, if all goes as planned, the project will be completed
in December, just in time for Christmas!
Happy birthday this week to: Zack and Zan Becton, Matt
Bazemore, Megan Bazemore, Ronnie Fleming, Joy Clifton,
Zadell Wilson, Seth Linder, Ansley Burke, Jackie D. Glisson,
Chris Adams, Sandy Marie Reid, Melodye Williams and Rick

Melvin Dickey and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Thomas.

Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
I would like to take this op
portunity to thank the Scarboro
Baptist Church WMU for their
donations and the VFW #2776
for helping me send two large
boxes of food stuffs and hy
gienic items donated by the
WMU, postage paid by the
VFW, to my son, Ronnie
Perryman, and the other troops
in his unit located in Asabadad,
Afghanistan.
As many of you may know by
now, Ronnie was recently in
jured in the legs by shrapnel
from a hand grenade explosion
thrown at their armored
vehicle by an insurgent. Ronnie
is gradually healing and doing
well, and he sends many thank
you’s to all who have sent do
nated items to our troops in Iraq
and Afghanistan.
The VFW, as well as our
church groups in the Millen/
Jenkins communities, are very
helpful and generous organiza
tions made up of caring people,
who make many contributions
to our troops and to
send donated items to Ronnie’s
unit in Afghanistan.
Again, thank you all so very
much for all you do for our
troops overseas, it means a lot
to them to receive anything
from home.
