Jenkins County Courthouse
renovations were the main topic
of discussion at a called meet
ing of the Jenkins County Com

16, prior to the regular meeting.
Renovation plans discussed
involve repair of the dome, roof
and HVAC system.

June 9 with Dabbs-Williams
General Contractor being the
low bidder at $451,400. Numer
ous items concerning the bid
were discussed as well as fi
nancing of the repairs. It was
noted that $528,000 has been set
aside for courthouse renovation

Sales Tax V funds, but it will be
necessary to use surplus funds
to complete the project.
Commissioner Pam Dwight
addressed the group concerning
Vernon Edenfield and his exper
tise with the renovation of his
torical buildings.
Following the meeting, Mr.
Edenfield met with the group
and shared some of his histori
cal knowledge of Jenkins
County and the courthouse. He
also shared his experience in
restoration of historical build
ings during his career, stating
that he would like to be a part
of the courthouse project work
ing from a “complete set of
plans” in hand before restora
tion begins.
The commissioners expressed
appreciation for Mr. Edenfield’s
remarks and interest.
