The Millen News, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 — Page 3 Senior, Junior teams place first The Jenkins County 4-H Project Safe Team had great day at the District Shotgun Match at Baygall Sporting Clays in Bulloch County. The Junior and Senior teams came home with first place team awards. The senior team had a score of 125/125. The junior team had a score of 119/125. Jenkins County had 34 participants with 24 qualifying for the state match which was held at Rock Eagle. An even larger team is expected next year. State FFA Secretary Neal remembered Harry and Rosalie Dwelle are shown on a visit to the grave of Dennis Neal at the Marietta National Cemetery on the 65 th anniversary of his death. He was killed Aug. 6,1944 during World War II in Normandy, Trance. His mother, Ruth H. Neal, was the owner/editor of The Millen News at that time. He was a member of the 109 th Infantry Regiment, 29 th Division. The Division had been in combat 10 days when he was killed. (Photo contributed) On June 12, Annakate Waters, daughter of Chris and Dawn Patterson of Millen, was elected the South Carolina FFA Secretary at the S.C. State FFA Conven tion held in Clemson. She is the granddaugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. CJ. Wa ters of Perkins. The State FFA officer team has been very busy with trainings throughout the summer and next she will be traveling with the SCFFA President and Executive Secretary to Washington D.C. for the State President’s Conference. There she will bring attention to matters of the state association and among the other attendees decide what issues the delegates of the National FFA Convention will vote on. Annakate and the fellow state officers from around the nation, including Georgia, will also have the honor of meet ing with United States President Obama. Apart from SPC she will be doing workshops for FFA members and representing the South Carolina FFA Association at many other events during her one year term. Annakate is a 2009 honor graduate of Westside High School in Anderson, S.C. She was an active member of the Anderson FFA Chapter and is now a member of the Anderson FFA Alumni Chapter. Her advis ers and agriculture education teachers are Jay Copelan and Ashley Granata.
