The Bo Ginn Aquarium at Magnolia Springs State Park will sponsor a Bass Tournament and Open House with reg istration for the tournament getting underway at 6 a.m. Sat urday, Aug. 8. The Open House, a musical program, weigh- in and filming gets underway at 7 p.m. The tournament entry fee is $25 with $15 being used to fund the winning pot. First place wins $50; second place, $30; and third place $20. The aquarium gets $10. Partici pants may fish anywhere they desire all day. The first place winner’s catch will be placed in a tank in the aquarium with their name on a plaque as the tournament winner. Instruc tions will be given to participants at registration as to han dling of the bass. Admission to the aquarium will be free, but donations will be accepted. Refreshments will be served, and children can play on Kellwood’s Noah’s Ark and feed the fish. A musical program consisting of local and out-of-town musicians will be enjoyed, and a video company will be on hand to film the event. The video will be used to promote the aquarium. Dept, updates The Jenkins County Recreation Department is holding foot ball registration for ages 4-13 and soccer registration for ages 4-17. Participants should come by the department during regu lar business hours to sign up. A birth certificate is required at the time of registration. The deadline for registration is Aug. 14. Anyone desiring to coach football or soccer should come by the department and fill out a coaches’ application. All coaches are required to have a background check. The dead line for signing up as a coach is Aug. 14. For additional information, contact the department at 982- 2943. GED Registration to be held Aug. 4 The GED examination will be given at Southeastern Tech nical College (STC), Swainsboro campus, Monday, Aug. 10, and Tuesday, Aug. 11. Registration is required prior to test ing. This will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 in Building 8 and 6 p.m. in Building 2, Room 2403. A pictured ID and Social Security card must be presented and a $95 test fee is due at registration. Applicants must be 18 or older. JCMS School Council Elections Jenkins County Middle School (JCMS) is seeking com munity/business persons to serve on the JCMS School Council. The purpose of the School Council is to bring com munities and schools together in an effort to solve difficult education problems, impact academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the decision making process.
