Page 2 — Wednesday, August 5, 2009, The Millen News Jennifer Wiggins attends GSNHSW Convention The Georgia Society for Nurs ing Home Social Workers (GSNHSW) held its annual con vention July 12-15 in Savannah with the East Central Council as the host for the event. Jennifer O. Wiggins, president of East Central Council, and social director at Bethany Nursing Center was present for the convention. The convention began on Sun day with registration and fellow ship and then the following three days were filled with education, fun and new ideas for the upcom ing year. Education ranged from dealing with Behaviors with nurs ing home residents, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Voting with Nursing Home Residents, Home Care Ser vices and the drastic, everyday changes that occur within the nurs ing home, from finances to emo tional stress on staff and Residents. The social workers were very for tunate to have Mrs. Teepa Snow, from North Carolina, an expert in then opinion, on Alzheimer’s and dementia patients; she has had hands-on training and experiences with residents with this diagnosis. There were close to 135 Nurs ing Home Social Workers, from throughout the state of Georgia in attendance. The East Central Council Members worked very hard and came together as a “True Team” and family. Regina Bell, administrator, and Evie Wiggins, assistant administrator, of the Bethany Nursing Center of Millen, has allowed Mrs. Wiggins to par ticipate with the East Central Council, GSNHSW Board meet ings and the conventions, which furthers her knowledge of nursing home procedures, care, etc. Lisa Frawley, activity/social assistant, at Bethany, also assisted Mrs. Wiggins with a few details before the convention. The GSNHSW board members were also very helpful in planning for the conven tion, which brings fellow social workers closer together. Mrs. Wiggins’ father, Charles Oliver, donated Augusta Sports wear bags, for each social worker to receive as a goody bag for at tending. Sponsors, groups, com panies, hospitals and individuals from throughout the state of Geor gia, helped make the convention a success by contributions. Jenni fer acknowledges the residents at the Bethany Nursing Center of Millen for letting her be a part of then life. She holds a special place in her heart for each one of them. Monday, July 20 • Roy Bynes of 340 Reeves Street was charged with driving with a suspended, canceled or revoked motor vehicle registra tion, tag light violation, no in surance and driving under the influence of alcohol-first of fense. Wednesday, July 22 • Officers investigated a re port of disorderly conduct at a Bay Street residence. Thursday, July 23 • A Walnut Street resident re ported the theft of a pit bulldog puppy from a pen on the pre mises. The puppy was white with a red nose. Friday, July 24 • Johnny Lockett, 602 Hwy. 25 North, Perkins, was charged with disorderly conduct, first offense.
