Fifty-eight golden years of love.
Fifth-eight years of caring,
Fifty-eight years of happiness,
Companionship and sharing.
We’ve seen the realization of so
Many things we planned.

ness was no longer a mystery.
“If she still lives as maid or
matron and this sketch should
meet her eye, it gives me
pleasure to assure her that the
fragrance of her kindly deed
though based upon no merit
of my own, still lingers lov
ingly in my memory, like the
echo of ‘faint, fairy footfalls
down blossoming alleys.’”
This charming account of a
visit to Millen’s Wayside
Home, penned at the turn of
the century by Augusta resi
dent and Confederate veteran
Walter A. Clark [Under the
Stars and Bars , Or Memories
of Four Years of Service with
the Oglethorpes of Augusta
(Augusta, GA: Chronicle
Printing Company, 1900), 90-
91], probably captures the
sentiments of many Confed
erate soldiers who received
its services. The Wayside
Home was located south of
the railroad, but a commemo
rative marker for it is today
located on the other side of
the railroad next to the Old
Depot Museum on Railroad
Avenue.
Makeover
for
Lady
Justice
Lady Justice is shown as she
now appears on top of the
Jenkins County Court
house. However, the Lady is
in the process of getting a
“face-lift”. Her peeling
paint is being scraped away,
and she will soon look her
best. Repairs/renovations
are also being made to the
courthouse dome, clock,
roof and heating/cooling
units. (Photo contributed)
