Join Arbor Day
Foundation,receive
ten free trees
Everyone from Georgia who becomes a member of the Arbor
Day Foundation in September will receive 10 free trees as part of
the Foundation’s Trees for America campaign.
Trees for America is a program dedicated to environmental stew
ardship through the planting of trees by the nonprofit Arbor Day
Foundation.
The 10 trees are eastern redbud, white pine, sugar maple, white
flowering dogwood, pin oak, red maple, river birch, silver maple,
northern red oak and Colorado blue spruce.
“These trees were selected to provide benefits every season of the
year in Georgia; lovely spring flowers, cool summer shade, spec
tacular autumn colors and winter berries and nesting sites for song
birds,” said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Foundation.
“They will also add to the proud heritage of Georgia’s 125 Tree
City USA communities. For more than 30 years. Tree City USA has
supported community forestry across Georgia, and planting these
trees will make this tree-planting tradition even stronger,” Rosenow
said.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting,
between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10. The 6-12 inch trees are guaranteed to
grow or they will be replaced free of charge. Planting instructions
are enclosed with each shipment of trees.
New members of the Arbor Day Foundation also receive The Tree
Book, which includes information about three planting and care.
To receive the 10 free trees, send a $10 membership contribution
to Ten Trees, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City,
NE 68410 by Sept. 30, or join online at www.arborday.org.

Be Careful What You Wish For
There is an old adage which counsels us to be careful what we wish for,
because we just might get it. That high-paying job we’ve been working so hard
to get might be incredibly stressful, or the mortgage and upkeep on our dream
home might put us in the poorhouse. In short, the things we think we want
sometimes turn out to be very heavy burdens, and can even lead to our com
plete undoing. With this in mind, it is wise to take some time to clarify our val
ues, and then to rethink what we value most in life. Be honest with our self. Do
we value our family more than our job? How much time do we spend with our
family and how much time do we spend at work? Do we value compassion
and caring for others? If so, how is this reflected in our everyday life? Do we
value and serve God, and if so, how? Take some time to really reflect on our
values, and then ask whether what we are wishing for is truly a reflection of
these values. Conversely, ask our self what our wishes say about our values.
Perhaps then, the more important question is not what we want, but what we
should want.
There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. R.S.V. Proverbs 14.12
