JROTC Raiders win region
The Jenkins County High
School JROTC Raider Male
Team and Male - Mixed Team
both won Region Champion
ships in their division Satur
day. Sept. 19. in Metter.
Schools from Area 1. Rich
mond Hill and Ware County,
and Area 9. Metter, Statesboro
and Jenkins County, all met to
determine best in division in
a five-event field competition.
In the Male Division
Jenkins County finished sec
ond overall and first in Area
9, eight points behind AAA
Richmond Hill. The War
Eagles had one first, two sec
onds, a third and a fourth
place totaling 12 points. Rich
mond Hill had four first place
finishes and one fourth place
to end at a total of 8 points,
four ahead of Jenkins for the
overall trophy. The Male -
Mixed Team took first place
in four events and second in
the final event to outscore
Metter for the Championship
by four points.
In the individual physical
fitness competition Fernando
Gomez from Jenkins County
was the overall championship
and the Region Champion.
James Amerson finished sec
ond in the Region and fourth
overall. The Female Division
had three Richmond Hill
Raiders and two from Jenkins.
Brittany McKinney finished
third overall and first in the
Region. Keondra Kelly was
fifth overall and second in
Area 9.

Dieteman. Justin Ellis, Jared
Hackworth, Juan Jeronimo,
Anthony Sea, Chris Simmons,
Dwayne Snelling, Jose Solis
and Bernard Thompson. Arion

alternates. Members of the
Region Championship Male -
Mixed Team are: James
Amerson, Natalie Branch,
Keondra Kelly, Fernando
Gomez, Andres Jeronimo,
Brittany McKinney, Marquis
Moody, Brittany Singer,
Jerome Taylor and Tay Taylor.

Hephzibah, Sept. 26; Elbert (Hart County as host) Oct. 31;
County, Oct. 3; Spaulding, and the Raider National
Oct. 10; Hiram, Oct. 17; State Championship Nov. 7-8 at the
Championship at Fort Yargo Thunder Scout Boy Scout
State Park in Winder, Oct. 24; Camp in Molena.

Douglas Reid Sasser, Jr. is the son of Dr, Douglas Sasser and the late
Latrelle Joyner Sasser. His parents grew up next door to each other on
Harvey Street in Millen. During die early 1980s. Doug and his family
moved to Millen. Doug was heavily involved in the Millen United
Methodist Church during his youth, He graduated from Jenkins
Comity High School in 1988.
Doug attended Young 11 arris College before going to the University of
Georgia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts. He is a 1996 graduate
of Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, where he earned a
Master of Divinity.
Doug and his wife Deena were married on May 27, 2007 in Port Went
worth at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. Shortly afterward
they moved to Virginia when Doug entered pastoral ministry. Cur
rently, Doug is serving his second appointment in the Virginia Confer
ence as the pastor of the East Halifax County Charge.
