Pvt. Nathan Chance graduates combat
training
Army Reserve Pvt. Nathan W. Chance has graduated from Ba
sic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky.
During the nine-week training period, the trainee received in
struction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and
bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical
exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, mili
tary justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, tradi
tions and core values.
He is the son of David W. and Wanda Chance of Perkins.
Brothers compete in jiu jitsu tournament
Dag and Donnie Gay competed in the North American Grap
pling Association Championship on Sept. 12. The competition was
a jiu jitsu tournament. To win a fighter must force the opponent
to submit by way of various jiu jitsu techniques such as chokes
or arm bars. Dag won second place and Donnie won third in their
weight divisions. From left, are JR, Dag and Donnie, sons of Don
and Langga Gay. Dag and Donnie are trained by their brother JR
Gay. JR Gay is an instructor of Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu at
Statesboro Karate-Krav Maga-Jiu Jitsu located in Statesboro.

Kayla Kirkland names Miss Kiwanis
Ogeechee Fair Queen
Miss Kayla Kirkland was crowned Miss
Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair Queen (teen divi
sion) for the 2009 Fair. Kayla also won
Miss Photogenic and Miss Sportswear.
Family and friends are invited to come out
and support Kayla on Monday, Oct. 12, as
she rides in the fair parade in Statesboro.
Kayla is a freshman at Jenkins County
High School and has been chosen to be a
Homecoming Representative for her class
during Homecoming festivities next week.
Kayla is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jo-
seph Kirkland.

Seniors on the Jenkins County High School softball team were
recognized Thursday, Oct. 1. Lrom left are,3rd base - Deondra
Lewis, daughter of Janice Tobie and Paul Lewis; 1st base - Cortnei
Earls, daughter of Shanette Anfield and Charles Earls, and right-
fielder Heather Johnson, daughter of Mirian Johnson and Tony

COMPASS Placement Exam
COMPASS is a free placement test, not an admissions test. It can be taken any time after an
admissions application has been submitted. The confidential results are used by academic advisors
to place each student in appropriate courses that will prepare him/her for educational success.
Calculators are permitted and the results are given directly to the student at the end of the test.
Students who are required to take the COMPASS test may not register for classes without test results.
Transfer students may or may not be required to take the COMPASS test. To exempt the test, SAT or
ACT scores are required.
What you need to bring:
'A $20 Application fee, if you haven’t applied in advance
'A Transcripts from previous educational experiences:
High school GED with scores
Technical Colleges All colleges and universities
'A SAT or ACT scores
SAT or ACT scores are not required if you graduated within 5 years of enrollment at EGC.
However, to exempt the COMPASS placement test, SAT/ACT scores are required.
