Honoring those who served
Local veterans were honored at the Jenkins County High School new gym during ceremonies held Nov. 11. The Jenkins
County Middle School and High School Band played songs from each military service while the JROTC stood in ranks and
saluted service members. Cadets Keondra Kelly and Lewis Williams presented the National Anthem. Cadets William Duck,
Henry Yarbrough and Arion Waters presented two musical tributes. Cadet Henry Yarbrough read a poem titled “Heroes”,
and another poem “Freedom is not free” was ready. Ayana Walker presented the history of Veterans Day, and cadet Andres
Jeronimo closed the ceremony with “Taps”. JROTC members are shown with veterans participating in the program. Veter

Jenkins County High School
Science club is collecting old
electronics to recycle. Most
electronics contain substances
that are toxic and may leach into
soil and groundwater. These
toxins have been associated
with cancer and a range of other
disorders. So the club is collect
ing electronics that are no
longer used to recycle and re
duce this type of pollution.
Items collected include
cellphones, inkjet cartridges,
laptop computers, mp3 players,
digital cameras, digital video
cameras and hand-held game
systems. Please, no other items
than those listed. The club does
not recycle charger cables.
Items may be taken to several
pick-up locations around
Millen. Collection boxes have
been placed in Linder Phar
macy, Thompson’s Corner on
Hwy 25, Rite Aid, Dr. Gay’s
office, Dr. Makerson’s office,
Bethany Home and Papa’s
Pizza. Items may also be
dropped off at the school’s of
fice or given to a science club
member.
