Being Thankful for All Things
Several years ago, I recall talking to some friends, and I mentioned the terrible day
that I was having. I went on to say that nothing seemed to be going right and that as
the day progressed I was getting more behind in my work. One of my friends said that
I should pray about this and thank God for my daily problems. This struck me as kind
of odd, because although I was aware that we should be thankful to God for all His
many blessings, I didn’t realize that we should also be thankful for our problems and
difficult situations. Later on, I was referring to the Bible and I found the following
verses: “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you...(1
Thessalonians 5:18).” And although I had read this verse before, this time the words
“all circumstances” really struck me. And then, in Ephesians 5:20, I read that we
should always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ. Surely it is not always easy to be prayerful or thankful to God for eve
rything, especially when troubles or illnesses come our way; however, accepting
God’s will for our lives reflects the trust and love we have for Him.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let
your requests be made known to God. New K. J. V. Philippians 4:6
