Syl-View Happenings
By Betty Scarborough
Activity Director
There have been a lot of hap
penings at Syl-View in activi
ties. The “Sonshine Mission
Group” met with emphasis on
World Hunger. Our residents
and staff will be placing their
love gifts in little banks shaped
like loaves of bread. The resi
dents have the opportunity to
give to others through our mis
sion group. Dorothe and Bill
Garrett led the program. Etta
Rae Weaver was not feeling
well but she had baked a cake
for the group to enjoy.
Dorothe Garrett will accept
the “Group Volunteer” award at
the state convention this week.
She will share with the group
there some of the special
projects of the Sonshine Mis
sion Group. She will show the
lap robes, a project that two
members of the group have led
as they crocheted more than one
hundred of these from yarn pro
vided by community volun
teers. Bill Garrett will receive
The Adult Volunteer of the Year
Award”. We are so proud of our
wonderful volunteer corps at
Syl-view.
Gerry Jones of the Leefield
Baptist Church provided a pro
gram of gospel music as he does
each month. The residents at
tending enjoyed ice cream
cones for refreshment.
It’s the end of the month and
time for Fun Nite. The Memo
rial Baptist Church provided the
entertainment and some of the
refreshments. The church spon
sors our Sonshine Mission
Group and they help support the
total activity program. Jordon
Zeigler, one of our youth vol
unteers. was named “Miss Sam
pler” and proudly wore the
crown. Jordon has been a vol
unteer at Syl-View since she
was very young and has been
named "Youth Volunteer” for
the state in the past. Amanda
Long, another Youth Volunteer
of the Year, also entertained. We
were thrilled to have the "Five
Smooth Stones”, a singing
group from the Millen Baptist
Church, entertain us at our
Grandparents Day celebration
We rejoiced over the Georgia
Bulldogs’ first win of the sea
son and our one-year-old great-
grandson, Mason Summers,
dressed in his bulldog outfit,
was there for his first bulldog
game. His dad, Matt, is a stu
dent at Georgia. The next week
he attended an Auburn game
with Matt’s parents who are War
Eagle fans. Syl-View bulldog
fan club received a letter from
Mark Richt, head foot ball
coach at Georgia. Go Dawgs!
