Griffin, Holley
exchange vows
Sarah Kathryn Griffin and
Robert Clinton Holley were
united in marriage at 5 p.m. on
Saturday, April 2, 2011 at First
Baptist Church in Statesboro,
Ga. The bride is the daughter
of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Franklin
Griffin of Millen, Ga., and the
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Gregory Allen Holley of
Wadley, Ga. The bride’s grand
parents are the late Dr. and Mrs.
Robert Hunter Rackley of
Millen, Ga. and the late Mr. and
Mrs. D. L. Griffin of Alamo, Ga.
The groom’s grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. Wynder Clinton
Smith, Sr. of Wadley, Ga. and
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen
Holley of Wrens, Ga.
Wreaths of pink roses, yellow
and pink tulips, green hydran
gea, sweet peas, pink peonies,
forsythia, larkspur and stock
decorated the exterior and inte
rior doors of the church. A huge
wreath of the same flowers cen
tered the front of the church, and
six pedestals holding cascading
floral arrangements with identi
cal flowers and bells of ireland
centered with pillar candles un
der large hurricane globes
framed the site of the double
ring ceremony.
Dr. John Waters officiated at
the ceremony. Music was pro
vided by Dr. Karla Qualls, pia
nist and organist. Margaret
Alice McWhorter of New York,
N.Y., friend of the bride, sang
“Surely The Presence” and “The
Prayer.”
Given in marriage by her par
ents and escorted by her father,
the bride wore a custom strap
less ball gown of ivory dupioni
silk featuring a soft sweetheart
neckline with alencon lace and
Swarovski crystals at the bod
ice. A silk bow was hand tied
over the silk shirred waist, and
silk buttons continued the length
of the train. She wore her
mother’s cathedral length veil
which featured delicate floral
lace that was scattered over the
bridal illusion and lined the
edge. In the pocket of her gown
the bride carried an embroidered
handkerchief that had belonged
to her maternal grandmother.
She wore the custom crystal hair
barrette that had been worn by
her sister on her wedding day
and walked down the aisle in
aqua silk shoes. She carried a
hand-tied bouquet of roses, tu
lips, peonies and sweet peas in
white and soft shades of pink
with green hydrangea.
The bride chose her sister,
Anna Griffin Herrington of
Perkins, Ga., to serve as her ma
tron of honor and soloist. Once
the wedding party assembled at
the altar, Mrs. Herrington sang
“How Great Thou Art,” her
sister’s favorite hymn. Brides
maids were Ashley Elizabeth
DeLay of Millen, Ga., Amanda
Claire Eanes of Valdosta, Ga.,
friends of the bride; Abbey Alisa
Holley and Heather Elizabeth
Holley, both of Wadley, Ga. and
sisters of the groom. The atten
dants wore floor-length A-line
skirts of aqua dupioni silk with
strapless ivory lace bodices. An
aqua silk sash was tied into a
bow at the waist. They carried
hand-tied bouquets of pink and
yellow tulips, pink roses and
peonies, sweet peas and green
hydrangea.
Lillian Frances Herrington,
two-year-old niece of the bride,
served as flower girl. She wore
an ankle-length dress of ivory
dupioni silk that featured
smocking at the neckline with
tiny ribbon bows and seed
pearls. Her custom silk hair bow
was accented with lace from the
bride’s veil and a covered but
ton from her train. Lilly carried
a moss-lined grapevine basket
containing white roses and
sweet peas.

Taylor of Statesboro, Ga., all
friends of the bride. They wore
knee-length black dresses of
their choice that were draped by
aqua silk pashminas
monogrammed with their ini
tials in ivory, a gift from the
bride. Each carried a long
stemmed rose tied with sheer
aqua ribbon.
The groom chose his father to
serve as best man. Groomsmen
were Jonathan Charles Boynton
of Hampton, Ga., Charles Tho
mas McConnell of Griffin, Ga.,
Matthew Collins Otis of Louis
ville, Ga., friends of the groom;
and Wynder Clinton Smith, Jr.
of Wadley, Ga., uncle of the
groom. Ushers were Brent

Ga., friends of the groom; and

Following the ceremony, the
bride’s parents hosted a recep
tion at Forest Heights Country
Club in Statesboro, Ga. The
ballroom’s round buffet table
featured a mass arrangement to
match the flowers used in the
church. Round guest tables
were decorated with ivory floor-
length cloths and large green
glass vases in an assortment of
shapes with various flowering
branches of forsythia, quince,
peach and cherry. Cocktail-
height tables were skirted to the
floor with aqua cloths and fea
tured clear glass cylinders filled
with peaches and topped with
kiwi hydrangea.
The bride’s cake contained
five round tiers iced to mimic
details of the bride’s gown. A
large bow cascaded down the
side of the cake. The groom’s
cake, a chocolate chip cheese
cake, was topped with the Uni
versity of Georgia “G” logo. It
was served with an assortment
of cheesecakes.
Guests mingled on the out
door patio and in the ballroom
where they danced to the music
of “The Fabulous Classics”
from Valdosta, Ga.
Through a shower of rose pet
als, the couple left for a honey
moon trip to Maroma Beach,
Mexico. The newlyweds reside
in Evans, Ga. where the bride is
a nutrition counselor for PHC
Weight Loss and Wellness Cen
ter in Augusta. The groom is
collection manager of his
family’s Wrens Finance Com
pany in Wrens, Ga.

proudly announce the birth of
their daughter, Alivia Jenae
Davis, on Aug. 26, 2011 at 12
p.m. She weight 8 lbs. and was
l9'/2 inches long. She has blond
hair and blue eyes.
Grandparents are Kenny and
Pam Clarke, Joe and Mable
Davis of Millen and the late
Mike Fries of Sylvania. Great-
grandparents are John and
Jeannette Fries and the late Ola Mae Fries of Sylvania and
Catherine Amerson and the late Rebun Amerson of Millen.
She is welcomed home by her sister, Aubrey.
